I've been working on this for quite some time, but only putting up shots at the X10 community forums. It's my first full game with any form of FPSC, and while technically finished, I'm still fine-tuning it. It's current version is v1.1 and I'll put it up in the Showcase when it gets to v1.2, then all other updates will be correct frame issues (this one area is really laggy, I can't find out whats causing it) So without further ado, here it is:

You are Martin Paulson, an amateur merc for hire. Your most recent client, who would like to remain anonymous, has hired you to search Crimson Hills Mental Institution for anybody. Contact from the hospital has stopped, and attempts to contact the hospital have been fruitless. After searching the main lobby for a bit, you quickly discover that not all is as it seems...

Requirements: If you can run FPSC x10, you can run this.

Now for some screenies!

I think the lights are way too small. (The actual lights, not the entities)

I don't like screen 3 and 4. The segment is very plain and makes the walls and floor blend into one another - looks messy.

@Red Eye:Thanks, I've been playing alot of FEAR lately, so that did influence me.

@puppy of kosh: I kinda like the way the lights are now, but I'll see how they are when they're a bit bigger.

@Butt monkey: I have been thinking I need to dirty up/change the floor there. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the feedback, like I said, this is in v1.1, and I'm hoping to release it at v1.2 or v1.3. Thanks again.

That's looking great Shogun, however the last screen is fairly empty, add a few more entities

my taste in music isn't weird, its just so amazing your ears haven't quite adapted to it yet.

lol, its the same bloom level as the rest. It's pretty low, most people pump the bloom up and it's looks awful to me, I can't stand it. And thanks for the feedback guys.

Here's the link to v1.1 download. Let's call it a "demo" of sorts. If you get the chance to play it, don't forget to review. It's 4 levels. Here are some things to keep in mind: In level 2, when you open the first door you need to shoot the table, if you try to walk through you may get shot out of the level and die, lol. That has been removed for v1.2. In level 3, there is a slightly harder path that goes from the beginning if you shoot the blockades.

EDIT: Also be warned that the frame rate is awful in the first hall, and I'm working on finding the problem and fixing it. :End EDIT

The concrete floor texture has been changed for v1.2, so keep that in mind. Don't forget to give feedback!

Level design is fine, but your lighting needs a lot of work. I would suggest setting the ambience to 0 and then placing more lights. Would be far more atmospheric.

I'm DLing at the moment, I'll post some more once I've played it.

It really depends on the brightness of you moniter. For instance, I'm on my laptop right now and the pics do look way too bright. But in game its much better and more atmospheric. The ambiance is set to about 10, which I understand is around the norm for most horror games. Anyway, thanks for downloading and don't forget to review.

Okay, I played and to be honest I wasn't impressed. Understand that I'm not trying to have a go at you here or anything, this is just how I thought the game was.

First off, the framerate seriously chugs. It took me roughly half a minute to walk down the first hallway, and the way the desks at the end of it were placed was a bit wierd.

And I'm not kidding when I say your lighting needs work. For one, only use the default white light in certain scenes, like the two tiled rooms on either side of the hallway, where even then a pale blue colour is better; any other stock colours look utter garbage. I would suggest changing your light colour to a creamy yellowish. As I said in my above post, turn the ambience to zero, and then place lights more frequently. With FPSC, IMO almost every indoor game should have an ambience of zero, and this especially applies to horror style games like this. For the architecture of your game, I would suggest placing one of those WW2 hanging lights every second segment, with the radius of their lights barely touching each other.

I didn't get past the first hallway and two rooms, because I quit because of the framerate.

One light point, at least, was that a relatively new member decided to forgo asking for free media and made a custom loading screen and buttons.

Please take my criticism into account and I'm sure you can improve

The frame-rate is rather crappy there, problem is that I don't know whats causing it and I haven't the slightest idea. I'll look into those lighting concerns and while I may be relatively new here, I've been on the community forums for quite some time. I can't do anything right now though, cause I'm at my dad's house on my laptop. Won't get back to my desktop until Monday.

low framerate in x10
wel nearly not possible lol i always get 100 fps

reasons of low fps :

-are you using any water or water effects? if not, delete the effects, to 0. this wil boost the fps!

-dont make large rooms

-not too much enemies

windows reflection on? put it off, wil boost fps

Toasty I made some of your changes and I think I'll keep them. I'm probably gonna make the light a little whiter then this current one. and MGarand, I made you changes and I get a solid 144 in that area now XD. Anyway, here's a screenie of the v1.2 main room. Ambiance is now at zero.

Here's the office, the new color in the halls didn't look good here, so I made it lighter.

Ah, beautiful! That's much better, and it's making good use of X10's shaders.

Thanks. It took me a while to change the lights, so v1.2 might not be out soon. Plus I'm working on my entry for the Ultimate FPSC contest.

It actually just looks good the way it is but I would increase the range of the lights a little.. real lights would shine farther into the room.

Massive bump? Seriously, this has been buried for 4 months.

The full release of it is coming soon, once I finish touching a few things up. I've still been working on this steadily and making a little progress, but a majority of those shots are old and have been changed.
