Tell me what you think of this site, it is Google but with a black background. It supposedly saves energy by using less light for your screen.

It's an interesting idea, to say the least. I can see how it would save energy and it does seem to make sense. Google should probably do that, since they're also now using goats to mow their lawn...

Two things.

1. I can find no fault in the concept. As trivial as it may be, it's true.

2. Google used to be much cleaner and simpler than it is today. It looked much like blackle, without any ads or added crap. They are slowly clogging up their home page with content that is causing the load times to be a little annoying.

That being said, blackle uses Google search, so if too many people start using it, they will have to shut it down or buy it, which is probably blackle's hope anyway. I like it.

Brian.

That's what meant for the mentality, but it isn't just not displaying light, it is displaying black light. Now, some say "There is no such thing as black light". That's only true for natural light. Not human lights (black light bulbs anyone?). So yea, it makes no difference except the colours.

Still, powering "black light" requires less energy, since the pixels are only partly lit, as opposed to 256,256,256.

In the beginning, the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

From the article:

Quote: "
In fact in newer liquid-crystal display, or LCD, monitors white is actually slightly more energy efficient than black.
"

Quote: "
Even though Google isn't tied to Blackle other than powering its search engine, Google green energy czar Bill Weihl in August posted a blog disputing the notion of black as the new green. "We applaud the spirit of the idea, but our own analysis as well as that of others shows that making the Google homepage black will not reduce energy consumption," he wrote. "To the contrary, on flat-panel monitors (already estimated to be 75 percent of the market), displaying black may actually increase energy usage."
"

Black is only more efficient if you use a CRT monitor, wite is more efficient on an LCD.

That's not google, it's just a website with a google search on it...

I remember google did this for a day a while back to 'raise awareness on energy saving' (I think it was some kind of 'world energy day' thing). However, I remember them saying it doesn't actually save any energy...

Yea, I was going to mention that too. In fact, it wont let you search for anything except a word. No images or news.
