I downloaded an episode of History Channel's "The Universe" and just finished watching it. Among the strange things it talked about was a certain type of nebula. This nebula is composed of ethyl alcohol; the kind that we drink. It's supposed to have enough alcohol to supply every person in the world with the stuff for several billion years.

Of course if you went there and drank the stuff now you'd have a lot more than a hangover in the morning since it's mixed in with stuff you shouldn't drink... (like hydrochlorides, carbon dioxide, etc...).

The History Channel has seasons 2 and 3 of The Universe (along with my other favorite, Life After People) posted on X-Box Live. 160 points for each (Standard Def, 500mb average size). Anyways...

Wait... were you suggesting space piracy, where you and your mighty fleet of (pastafarians?) will go out and claim those clouds for your own profit??? O_O

Let's find a way to use it to power cars! I mean, if there's that much of it.

Yes, but how do you get it from the nebula to the car?

Now that I think about it, there's a potential game around here somewhere.... like maybe opening and managing a bar while keeping space pie rats out of the area...

I think you will find that this area of space and everything in it belongs to me.

Pesky little critters Alternatively you could live out Peter Griffin's dream and be a retired umpire who opens a bar at the centre of the Earth.

Lol. Don´t think it would be very healthy to drink from that nebula, though .

stick a tube into space and suck until the alcohol comes through obviously.

Would that work when space is pretty much a vacuum?

Hang on - I thought pure alcohol kills you on the spot.

Pure alcohol is pretty dangerous, it's not worth it. We made pure alcohol when I was at school as part of an experiment and of course we were told how dangerous it was to drink, thus nobody was foolish enough to drink it.

Imagine, you don't have to go all the way to the bar and teeter your way home. And it's normal to be called a 'drunk'. Utopia!

If at first you don't succeed, relax. You're like the rest of us.

What do you do is, say, plasma comes before the alcohol?

That reminds me of a guy I once met, who dipped his finger in liquid nitrogen...

However, the nebula is made of Ethyl Alcohol; the stuff found in beer. Still not safe to drink it straight from the nebula though. You've got other chemicals in there that need to be taken out first.

It'd be better put to use as fuel if it is in large quantities.

I don't know what drinking down hydrogen chloride, carbon dioxide, and the other stuff you'll find mixed into an ethyl alcohol nebula will do to you, but it must be pretty bad... (when the scientist was describing what you'd find, it showed a skull/crossbones over the glass of beer on the bar...)

I might suggest Starwraith 3D Games to implement a Alcohol Mining Beam in the equipment range.

Wait... won't the mining beam just burn off the alcohol?

Let's hope we get to sample these things soon... before they transform into stars.
