so a couple months back TGC announced they were reselling the Abyssal Engine. I held off looking too closely at it since the Abyssal Engine seemed to be related to a rather large controversy a few years back in which some folks were bilked of their money. Now the website http://abyssal.thegamecreators.com is returning a 403 and it appears the engine has fallen off the planet from a TGC perspective.

Was I correct in my hesitation? Was this another re-emergence of the old scam engine and TGC just figured it out and dumped the site? The "official" site for the engine still exists but I won't link it here just in case.

nm, it's the same scam engine from a few years back. Just found this on the official sites FAQ page.

"I was a Mourning pre order customer.
You may be entitled to a free independent developer tools seat. Contact sales with your details."

Mourning was the game behind the whole scam. No wonder TGC dropped them, I'm rather surprised they even got taken in by this.

I think that TGC will look into scams before selling anything. They wont sell anything that they havnt tested themselfs and the contract allows them to take legal action against the developer if they do anything wrong. Mourning probably wasnt a scam. Just that they mustve decided to take preorders too early and found some huge problems with the engine causing its release to be postponed by a few years. At least they got their moneys worth in the end.

The engine scam is pretty well documented. Just google Chaos Engine, Mourning, Abyssal Engine if you don't believe me. There is plenty of documentation on what went down and how they ripped people off.

the engine has also gone up in price i think. so that might be the reason for TGC dropping it.
