How many windows can your Windows system open before it all goes horribly wrong? I can clock 900 before explorer.exe crashes and then the system freezes.

Made in Visual Basic 6. Don't forget to save your work. ^^

I'm up to 2000 windows with Aero Glass enabled on Vista x64, and it hasn't crashed yet.

Vista uses twice the GDI memory of XP per window in order to swap between the surface shown and video memory (or something along those lines - the memory consumption is at least 2x per window than XP)

So in theory, XP should trump Vista. And Win7 should trump both (because they fixed the compositor so the memory use is more linear compared to Vista)

Well, I only have 1Gb of RAM in this machine and it's not 64-bit either. With 500 windows open, the RAM usage for the process is ~32mb.

NeX, remind me that i never run your programs again. With desktop effects the Compiz window manager gets useless pretty quickly. But i managed to leave it run pretty long until i got bored. (To close it, i just fast clicked on the main app and pressed alt+f4)

I could try it without any fancy desktop stuff, and probably open all the windows, but it would take too long.

Glad you like it. Try right clicking the group and tiling or cascading.

No transparency enabled because it takes ~0.5 seconds to draw each window if it is.

I have GOT to write an OS X version and do an Expose.

I dont use groups, as i dont like them. As you see the panel at bottom. It gone all crazy (No applications shown) After i closed the windows, the panels froze a moment and then acted like normal.
