So I just got done watching an hour and 20 minute presentation video on Google's next product-Google Wave. It's difficult to describe, but it's basically a tool for collaboration and communication online. Here's the about page that might describe it better:

http://wave.google.com/help/wave/about.html

And the video link (worth watching):
http://wave.google.com/

From what I've seen, I'm very impressed (but not surprised, it is from Google, what else can you expect?). A tool like this will make collaboration on projects, or just everyday communication much more efficient and smoother. I'm looking forward to hopefully using it in game development in the future...

Yeah, I watched it today. It looks very awesome. I love how they made everything open, which will help it catch on, I think. I hope they open the beta to the public pretty soon so more developers can start getting on it.

I love the live update and stuff. Not so much for chat, but more for collaboration. Like designing stuff and things. To have it update like that will be awesome.

This reminds me of facebook, only...by Google. Haha.

I'm very excited about this though.

Did you watch the video? . And that's exactly why it is special-it combines instant messaging with networking and email plus additional features.

While I am impressed with the technology, I am not impressed with the features. It seems like something that would be geared for a small part of the general population. I can see it being useful for people collaborating on a project, but it probably won't be popular for friends to just hang out.

I can't believe the guys that are marking this down!

The ability to consolidate wiki, email, chat, twitter, forums, social networks, blogs, newsgroups etc, using a single interface, and to do it all in almost-real-time with document history and automatic language translation is a massive step forward in communication.

Even if it's not this specific platform, this kind of thing is definitely the way forward.

@IanM - I guess the thing for me is it doesn't shock me instantly. When I first saw Google Maps, Google Earth, and Google Suggest (just to name a few), I was completely amazed in an instant. Google Wave seems like too much under one roof. If it takes off, then I will not be against using it myself. I just don't see it as being "the next email".
