I've searched the forum for "blog" and got a bunch of threads with dead links to blogs so clearly it's something very little people stick with. The only person who seemed to have made cash off their blog is Rich and a nice amount as well. Has anyone ever made anything of sponsors or maybe even google adsense?

It's a tempting idea, I've been meaning to get my blog off the road properly. I might do the same for my website too - because there are a couple of tutorials that people seem to still visit for.

Interestingly a friend for Uni had the BBC contact her after reading her blog asking her to write them an article, which is quite lucky for her really as it was just her final year and no doubt that's something groovy to have on a CV.

In all fairness I don't make a penny from my blog itself, not directly at least. I don't run any adverts on there or sell anything. So really the money has all been made by me making Flash games and selling them to sponsors. And I do that a lot, and yeah I make a decent amount doing it as well.

Of course I love having a blog though. I keep it updated as best I can because I get to meet lots of cool people through it. And I get work through it as well. So indirectly it leads to some money, but mostly it's just for me

Problem with this, is it's another "spend money to make money" situation - you'll only generate cash if you spend the cash to get your blog known to begin with. If you don't, any advertising money etc. will be minimal if not zero.

EDIT: Oh, and my blog certainly isn't dead thank you Been going since 07. Normally only post once a month, but it's alive (albeit on a slow server)

I made $25 off of Gunn3r Games while it was still up through AdSense ads alone. With Molten Byte Design, I'm going to continue AdSense as well as try some other things to get money.

I don't know about blogs, but I do know about Google AdSense. fpsFREE.com averages over $60.00 per month on click revenue, and continues to slowly grow. Of course it took 3 years to get the traffic it takes to get that many clicks. I use some SEO techniques that I've learned over the years, and try to keep fresh content on it.

Seems like you would have to be kind of famous to get enough hits on a blog to make any money.

There are a few blog sources out there that can generate income, though so far I've made about $2 total from them, lol. Newsvine is one. Associated Content is easy to use and seems to generate more money, but they get pretty rediculous about their formatting and whatnot (I had an article rejected because I used a period instead of a comma by accident). But I suppose those aren't really blogs so much as open-source news and information resources... differnet from a blog in that your opinion isn't as spotlighted as the factual content. Still, it's fun to hammer out an article now and then in my down-time.

I don't know how effective Google Ads are, IE how much money they generate, but that seems to be a popular method of earning money through blogs as well.

We talked about building a blog you can be proud of, trying to improve the quality of your work, reaching the people you admire, and maybe even making a buck (in a way that doesn’t blow your deal). Here’s what we had to say:"

If that quote tickles your pickle then it might be worth an hour of your time listening to the podcast linked to, if not then feel free to move along.
