Wow, those were some nice clips. I wonder how many of them were actual, real time simulations, or pre-renders?

Anyway we sort of had a discussion based on this in Game Design Theory (Well I shot up a question)

Nice video though. I was mesmerized,

That is very cool... I liked all the stuff you could do with the water and particles, that seems pretty cool

The guy who made this video clearly doesn't know a lot about what is featured in it.

The water effects are quite interesting, really that's something I've hoped to see in games for a while, decent water flows, waves, etc etc.

At lot of the water simulations I've seen in examples for programs like Real Flow and similar apps, you will find that a lot of polygons are used in those kind of water simulations and would take a lot of processing, so I don't see them coming out for a little while - given the ones in those videos are renders - the calculation too can take ages - I remember when getting a copy of real flow on a cover disk, the tutorials was to apply liquid effects to a human model, it seemed like a simple enough tutorial, but I stopped at the part where it said 'this bit will take 10 hours' and that was the part where the model took time to calculate its geometry. Okay, this was 3/4 years ago and Real Flow has released more editions since then, but still it must take a lot of power.

Yeah, the math involved in true water simulation must be pretty scary!.

I dunno why, but I like water effects in games, it's like when a water effect, shader, whatever is done nicely it really makes the game shine. Like GTA4 with it's dirty, trash strewn water - not the best looking but incredible with the way it moves, very realistic water effect that one. I have a game on the DS called Aqua Panic, it's kinda like a water based Lemmings game, little fish in a puddle of water, and you can direct it's flow by blowing up bits of level, turning valves etc, to try and get the little fishies to the exit. It's not exactly a fully 3D water simulation, but for a puzzle game it works out pretty damn well, it's fascinating to watch the water flow around the place, gather in little pools full of fish etc etc. I'm just glad that water is still something developer like to push, and if they keep pushing we should see some very cool games in future - decent surfing and water sport games for one thing . It's daft, but even though they added the cool water to GTA4, it still feels like there are boats for the sole purpose of getting you home again when you end up in the drink!. The tug boat can be quite fun though.

That demo is very nice. I don't see gaming being very far off from that. the way technology is advancing now days is incredible. I was actually just talking to my wife yesturday about what I think gaming will come to in the near future. After all, it is funny to me that I have bought a new PC only a couple months back and it is outdated already. And I'm definately looking forward to seeing the future games.

There is a few things the video didn't point over, such as evolving storylines. I'm guessing even evolving gameplay.

I believe one of the newest breakthroughs will be a standard library for npc chat's, literrally something that puts sentences together focusing on quests etc.., a sort of advanced AI system for every NPC. No pre scripted stuff , i'm pretty sure there is stuff out there already like that. E.g. Alice http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=f5d922d97e345aa1 <-- but this even has flaws still, for example try saying hey 5 times in a row, you get the same anwser..., it wouldn't be too hard to implment something to stop this but eh it's just my opinion.
