This is an awesome looking AI project by MicroSoft accounced at E3. A character that can not only put a sentence together, but add (And respond to) gesture and body language, while interacting with his 3d world, which you can also interacct with (for example, handing him a piece of paper by waving it infront of the camera).

It seems this was also a part of the Project Natal bit as well, I think the guy from Lionhead studios introduced this on the PN video, but looking at it in more depth makes it look very cool, assuming the video is for real (that it isn't demonstrating what it plans to do, but what it can do already)

It has been in development since 2001 (Milo is what became of "Project Dimitri") so I reckon it must be pretty damn good / real. Whether it's as good as the video makes it out to be, we'll have to see...

2001 is a pretty significant date though - the year of release of Black & White, which makes me think the AI tech from that followed directly into this

I think I'd probably won't take it that seriously. I got friends thank you. But I see this becoming quite a immersive idea, imagine a rpg like that. It'd open more vast area for dialouge in games everywhere, especially Oblivion-esque RPGs.

People develop love for their D2 characters, what is THIS goin to bring? How long do you give it before some one gets in a love relationship with one of these guys?

On the subject of AI integration into games, why was AIML never used in a game with speech synth?

Imagine playing a game as someone's conscience and convincing the main character to do things

That's where I thought Project Dimitri was going initially, after I read a few interviews with Molyneux. Whilst Milo is impressive, a game centered around a realistic 'life' of a character (and you directly or indirectly controlling) would have been far more impressive - and a far more impressive use of the AI too. A few of the early hints that were dropped seemed to point to that kind of thing, so I hope Milo is the result of some of the tech, rather than a complete usage of it

Sorry for the double post, but I get the impression that Peter Molyneux is either stepping down from his position or flat-out retiring.

His twitter feed stated "this [next announcement] is a personal announcement not a game announcement"

Hope he doesn't retire

I could see this working if the character was a really cute alien or Wall-E type robot that barely spoke English, then it could still impress by spotting your shirt colour etc and it wouldn't break the illusion if it couldn't carry a conversation, and just resorted to basic emotional responses.

It's certainly a cool idea, but I want to know how far you could take a conversation. I mean, could I really have a long discussion with Milo about my favourite sport or discuss the finer points of modern cinema? Doubtful. It seems to be more small talk that Milo responds to. It would be interesting to see how Milo responds to a good f- you. I'd "introduce" my friends to him just so they can yell abuse, then later on I can ask him if he likes them and see what he says. Beyond that, I can't see myself conversing with an xbox character. Besides, how big a social retard would this make you look? I'm not necessarily bashing it, but I'm sure I'd get some weird looks from my parents if they saw me talking to this... thing.

I didn't win Britain's got talent, but I would like to thank everyone for all their encouragement and support. I love u all!
