Just a little warning incase any of you hear from this company, or are thinking of going with them, im in the UK, but i dont know if they also operate abroad.

If any of you out there have heard from a company called "Something" which offers an Internet TV Box, Skype style Phone and Broadband at a very very low price, then DON'T go with them.

http://something.info/

My Stepmum agreed to get them, i didn't know until after, initially it sounded like BTVision, and i think my stepmum thought it was that she was getting, so i was instantly dubious about it, upon recent installation and googling, i have found that they are currentley under investigation for how they are selling and lying about there service and what it includes, and its capabilities, its parant company also offers an alternate, (but very simular) service called PlayTV which i think is being taken to court by many customers due to such poor quality of service and poor products.

My stepmum now has the full package from "Something" so here is what the service is like so far.

THE TV SERVICE
Its and IPTV Service, (Sent via Broadband), Picture and Sound Quality is very poor with slow FPS, (Freezing Pictures), poor color quality, Most channels simply say "Service Currentley Unavailable, and sometimes the sound and video are massivle out of sync, (By as much as about 30 seconds)", My step mum was garanteed on demand service, ability to record programmes and play/pause for live TV, but what the company failed to mention is that all these good features are still in developent stage and not available, all interactive features and on demand are also non existant, The box they provided is of poor quaity, and the only buttons that work on the remote is the menu button, (for TV guide only), and the volume control, no other buttons work so to change channel, you have to navigate your way through there poor navigation system, we have unplugged this now and are not using it anymore as its worthless and at best should only be in the development stage, There is not now/next style feature, and the channel up/down button doe not work, I've had freeview boxes which where better, and the origional installation engineer i saw did say this is a brand new service which even he hadn't seen before.

THE PHONE SERVICE
The phone does look good, and operates like Skype, but when you call someone, it will not show your phone number, instead it shows a number which looks like an IP Address, im already worried about this as if it is your phones IP Address it shows instead, then there must be some security issues with this, but this is not the worst with the phone, we can receive calls, but whenever we try to make a call it simply says a prerecorded message saying "Network Busy", then buts you off, My sister tried calling her mobile from the phone, and got through, but got through to some other number instead, and it wasn't her mistake as she tried several times and got the same person who none of us know and had to appologies to the person on the other end, were not using the phone now, but have left it plugged in as my stepmum did give the new number to some people.

THE BROADBAND
After all the problems we had with the other services, i havn't really bothered with the broadband, i did try to connect with a friends laptop, but the Password written on the rooter was not accepted, not tried again since, Also theres the fact that i think a standard wireless rooter can only take 4 connections, i might be wrong here, not sure, but 2 connections are already used, one for the phone, and one for the IPTV Box, the company also has a nice way to make more money from you aswell as they have put a large transmitter pole or somethink on the roof so they can also share our broadband and charge others for roming rights to connect.

WE WANT THE SERVICE OUT...

my stepmum did try but they initally claimed she was tied into a 12 month contract, this was not true, and she was told she could cancel the services any time free of charge, after much time on the phone, (calling the support which they charge a bit for), and them hanging up on us once, eventually they have said they would be willing to remove the service, but that they can not until they have sent an engineer round to try and fix the problem, so they can say they have tried, they are coming this monday at 4PM, (They dont work nights or weekends).

Sorry for going on here but this is just a warning incase any of you hear from this company, and if they refuse to remove the service after monday, then im going to point them to this post as there are far too many problems with it to mention on the phone, i've not even mentioned all the problems here.

Thank goodness we never caneclled the Virgin Media Services as where still usign them.

BE WARNED!!!

no replys, but an update anyway.

Engineer turned up today over an hour late, phone is now working, but the Engineer himself said everyone is having the same problems with the new TV Service, and he said that he thinks it should not be available yet as it is still in development stage with the company, and all the customers of the TV Service have the same problems, (I guess he doesn't know i've made this post).

To me this means they should not be selling the service yet as my step mum is paying for a TV service which the company knows does not work for any of there customers, and which they know is still only in the development stage.

...AVOID THIS COMPANY...

Under my old job with BT Wholesale and Ofcom, it was illegal for me to point out the negatives of any registered CP/SP, Guess its lucky I don't work for them any more now

The name Somthing sounds dodgy to start with!
But it does make sense if its a random draw/raffle, which it isnt.

Anyways thanks for the heads-up!

And remember kids, just because it has a flashy website, doesn't always mean it's legit!!!

PS: Don't ever go with Just Host as a hosting solution. I'll add my 'don't go with this company' two cents

I don't know about Hosting Companies, but id suggest one thats been around for many years like FastHosts or 1&1, although these are not the cheapest out there.

It tends to be the same with Broadband where you get what you pay for, some companies like Zen Internet have fewer complaints from customers, and has better customer service than some of its competaters, but also costs a little more.

I guess the age of cheap and chearful dosn't apply so much nowerdays when it comes to media and BB

Hi Guys, Another update about Something.

Sorry to bring this up again, but now they have claimed that part of the service is under a 12 month contract, Regardless to the fact that the package does not work, so I have now sent an eMail to them pointing out this thread, and that I will make my official complaint to Ofcom in 7 days from today if ALL the services are not removed by then.

If an Employee of "Something" can be bothered to read this then please note that you took my Stepmum, (Who has difficulties with reading due to Dislexia), knowing that she would not be able to read a contract, so your salesman read it, and lide about what the package included, and about the contract which they insisted there was no fixed contract, and they spicificley said she was free to cancel the service any time free of charge, As stated above, You have 7 days before I make a complaint to Ofcom, then 7 days before I take matters further to spread the word of your company so REMOVE IT ALL NOW.

Id prefer to know how this turns out, ive know people who have been scammed in similar methods, promising 50mb connection (were only just getting it here in England) for a reduced price, they paid on the contract, then found out the service is temporaily off service until 2014.

hell, if /b/ found out about this theyd have a field day, i did with the place who got me friends...nuff said.

@MSon,
Don't just report it to Ofcom, report it to trading standards too.

It seems to me that they're also in breach of contract, so you have the right to cancel and to sue. (IANAL) I suggest you find a local solicitor and ask them about it - you can probably find one who does first consultation for free, or even one who does free Saturday consultations.
