Any one noticed yet that I have invariably bad fate with my networks?

Ok so This has been happening for like 2-3 weeks and ive finally had enough of it! The web browser simply stops displaying pages. The same screen as if I was not connected at all to the internet. This happens in both FF and IE.

But here's the thing. MS Vista reports a connection to the internet, I can still play WoW, Counter strike source, I can update my AV software, I can do basically everything EXCEPT view web pages. And you know when u first connect to a server in CSS how it shows like a home webpage? I get the little red "X" icon as if it cannot display the page.

So what the heck????? Is it a port issue? There is nothing really that would block that port (80 if i recall correctly) like im just using the web like everyday and boom it just stops working.

Any ideas? It's really frustrating.

Here's a weird one for you. System is clean according to NOD32, Avast, Spybot and MalwareBytes. On a single about:blank. Not connected to the internet for two days.

Autoexec.bat is empty.

what exactly is a browser hijack? never heard of it. I forgot to mention that restarting the machine solves the problem temporarily.

Thanks for the help so far!

ok i dont think this is a browser hijack. All scans come up clean. I was looking in my event log and saw that the service called "Win HTTP Web Proxy Auto Discovery Service" was turned off at the same time the problem started. So I turned it back on hoping all would be well but of course it was not.

Network diagnostics says that there is an error that cannot be fix automatically and that www.microsoft.com is not setup to accept connections from this host or something to that effect.

Its getting really old rebooting my machine 1-2 times a day for something as simple as using the internet.

Thanks!

Run msconfig. Go to services tab, check hide all Microsoft services. then Untick or disable all services. Then goto the start up tab untick everything. Then reboot. If your system appears to be running smoother try re-enabling each service and startup entry untill you can identify which service/program is effecting your system.

Afterwards search on Mcafee or symantec sites for that program name, if nothing on there try google.

didnt really work...

sometimes it feels like my network runs itself. I doubt its malware since i have AVG, PC tools, Windows defender and windows fire wall always running and full scans every night.

but my network is always restarting, disconnecting, etc etc and soforth.

I'm running out of ideas here

Is it wired or wireless? (going into your PC)

I've had similar problems before when my PC's LAN port was full of dust.

that might be it. I'll take a look at that.

But heres ANOTHER one for you (i hate networks) Every so often (usually like (10-45) minutes the network completely crashes and the "DSL" light on my router go red and flashing for about 15-20 seconds. obviously nothing works but after that it goes solid green along with the "Internet" light and the "Activity" light begins flashing. and everything is back to normal.

EXTREMELY frusterating while playing online games or downloading files.

I'm this close to calling tech support but i dont want to waste 2 hours of my life telling them that yes, i've restarted the computer, yes, i've run the windows network diagnostic tool, and no, im not behind a router just to get a technician out here.

And plus the problem doesnt happen 100% of the time so i can just see the tech getting here and of course everything working perfectly for him.

Thanks everyone for your help thusfar... just one of the things i luv about the TGC forums

If the DSL light goes red and flashes, it means your line is crap and so it can't maintain a connection. It probably means you live in Britain.

lol nope i dont live in britain. i live near chicago and use AT&T.

So could the line from the wall to the router be bad or something?

I checked for dust and found nothing. (blew on the ports anyway) but no difference.
