Hi,

Has anyone played or bought the recently released game Prototype? I have just played it till day 5 of day 18 of the infection and the game is extremely fluid in the animations and how effortlessly Alex Mercer scales buildings and runs. The game has incredible graphics while never loading while free roaming. The gameplay is spot on and deserves some recognition in how easy it is to be this terrible bio-chemical guy.

My one and only criticism about the game so far is the cut scenes are flowed out like a American Pie movie with the frequent usage of the F word followed by heiL most of the time.

My questions is do words really add to or take away from a game? In my opinion poor lack of story words can lead to a shameful story whereas I believe is is alright to slash through hundred of armed guards. I am in college, but I still feel strongly that better word choice of game writers would overall benefit many games.

What are your thoughts on whether cuss words add or subtract from a video game?

I've not really been digging any of these new 'super powered/super mutant' games where you run around a city and just trash everything. All the video's i've seen are just repetitive combat followed by repetitive jumping around.

I bought the game yesterday and been playing quite a while now I love this game so far. The destruction in it is extremely well done, and is nicely followed up by all the totally awesome abilities and powers you have ^^ Running around the city is a lot of fun in itself

I really like the combat so far, since you've got a lot of abilities at your disposal, and different combinations to learn. And of course, the blood and gore is extremely satisfying

So far I'm glad that I purchased the game, and I'll be playing more tonight ^^

It's too expensive, why would you pay 50€ for a game you download.

As far as the question he had in his first post:

Language in a serious game or movie is necessary whether you feel swearing is wrong or right. To convey the proper emotions and to be believable it has to emulate what would happen in certain real life situations. Now, I've not played prototype so I can't say if it's overboard on the swears, but yes, when games, music, movies, etc. go overboard I just find it annoying. It's like the writer's aren't creative enough to give their characters any intelligence.

Yeah, lots of people would swear up a storm in these situations but I feel that when it comes to a piece of art like a game or movie when they do an extremely cinematic, flawless combat sequence, does that happen in real life? Rarely, if ever. These sequences can beautify the final product, just like giving a character a more mature and intelligent dialogue than one might have if he were really placed in that situation.

But yeah, when people in real life as well as in games and movies swear all too much. It takes away the implied seriousness of the words if you ask me.

I really am enjoying Infamous on the PS3 these days, so I might check out Prototype. The thing is, is Radical games tend to suck, so I'm very skeptical. I have many friends who worked/worked there as it's located in my city, and it is viewed more or less as a slave farm.

I'll wait for a price drop first

I got it in order to do a review on it! It isn't to bad, but It's quite repetitive, like kill the hunters, gather hive energy, run from the army, kill the hunter leader, absorb him, get away again and so on, and so forth! I like the free run mode, since I can ravage up the entire place, while dodging 3-4 hunters spawned from Water towers, and mocking the army!

Of the 3 Sandbox games that have come out recently, why has NOBODY talked about Red Faction: guerrilla? I haven't played infamous( no ps3) but I have prototype over a friends house and it's not nearly as fun as driving through walls or taking a sledgehammer to the face of a footsoldier

my taste in music isn't weird, its just so amazing your ears haven't quite adapted to it yet.

Saw a friend of mine playing this game, it did not seem like that fun in the long run, lol. But in the short run, one could have a very good time!

It has multiplayer, which I wasn't planning on playing but its actually pretty crazy. Crushing a real other person seems soooo much more satisfying than an AI. Also the campaign is pretty long, about a hundred side missions including raids, demolition challenges etc....

Really I haven't gotten bored of it yet, heck I'm almost a red bar rank online (which I think is 90/125 ranks about)

Multiplayer? Well that changes it, then. Would love to see that game in multiplayer, but my friend said it didn´t have any... so he could not have looked hard enough, lol!

Yes, we were, which I then lead into a conversation of RFG, because Infamous and Prototype were the 2 more popular of the 3 sandbox games to come out recently, I just wanted to credit RFG because it is very fun. read above 4 the whole conversation because what i said was relevant......

I see no reference to RFG. prasoc mentioned it, but Mr Z was talking about prototype, I believe. Being as how this topic is about Prototype, I think it's fairly safe to assume that that's what we're talking about.

well, lets leave it at a misunderstanding, but the conversation did ease in rfg.......

and I wouldn't buy prototype either, unless it had a lot of replay value otherwise it doesn't seem to b worth the $$$

Why does Prototype suck!? Have you ever played Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider for X-box 360 or PS3 then you will totally hate those games after playing it and love Prototype.

Radical Entertainment went out on a limb for this new IP and I feel they gave it the full treatment it deserves. The game features incredible cut scenes which is why I bought it for the story not stupid multiplayer when I have a job and go to college no time for online. The Game's animations are into the thousands and the game only loads between missions once you start the game up! If you say Prototype sucks you either A) Haven't played it or B) dislike the fact that Alex Mercer is the smartest protagonist I have ever played with and automatically jumps over cars, scales buildings, or knocks people over as he runs through a crowd.

Back to the main point of this thread that I started talking about. I do agree with you Agent Dink, I think some Military games benefit from authentic dialogue, but when you put a super evil genius or average protagonist I think they should have a wider vocabulary then what the large game companies make them out to have middle school IQ's.

You forgot c) Maybe i just don't like the game. Maybe, god forbid, i don't like the game on my own merits and i'm not just liking it because everyone else does?
Ever think of that?

^^ Ditto. I don't relish the fact that there's umpteen moves upon moves that you unlock as you play. I prefer Infamous' low move count because it kept the weird button combinations* out of the game.

*Weird--- Firefox says "combinations" isn't spelled correctly.

I doubt I will use all the moves Radical Entertainment gave to Alex Mercer ( I play RPG's and rarely use special magic skills, so more moves is always just for game enthusiasts of the particular game). It is nice to know that when you go back to the game at the hard difficulty you will have more options to destroy your enemies with though.

No, I forget to add point c. Everyone has their own opinion I was just saying that this game is a lot better than what I had expected and I feel $40 day it came out at Toys R Us that it is definitely worth the cost.

Are you kidding me? I swear so much that some people say I use more profanity than regular words (that's not true, but it can seem that way to some people). Actually, profanity can be very useful in emphasizing certain points in a conversation. It's not good when it's overdone, but if it's used in the right amount it can actually add to the realism of a game. For example: When a guy is greeting someone, he says "Hey man, what the f***'s up." People don't say stuff like that in real life. But if the guy is hurt, he'll likely let out a "Son of a b****!" People do say stuff like that.

As for Prototype... well, I don't really like that kind of game where all you do is run around shooting and killing people, so I can't say anything about it.

Swordfight! My cheesy little first game!
