You don't buy copyright, it's assumed. You need to protect IP (branding, trade marks etc) by various means, do a search and you'll find lots of discussions ("copyright" gets 88 hits on this forum)

It may depend upon what country you are in. In most countries, your copyright exists from the moment you fix your original expression (game, in your case) in a tangible medium (like your hard drive). That is free.

In the U.S., you can take an additional step of registering your claim to copyright with the government, which as a practical matter makes it easier to sell the copyright itself, somewhat easier to license it, and is a prerequisite to suing someone for infringing it. The process isn't free, but it's not steep. You can do it online and by yourself for $35: http://www.copyright.gov/

It costs more to do it by mail.
