Was just wondering if there is any free software that will let me record in game play so i can put together a trailer

is the standard/common one. The (free) demo is fairly good besides the little watermark (and the 30 second limit per clip, but you can work around that) - besides the full version is fairly cheap too.

is another one (it's free + open source) but I'm fairly certain it can't record sound

Xfire has built-in game recorder. After recording you can choose if you want to upload it on Xfire server. IIRC it has no watermarks ETC...
