Geek Culture / Potentially my last commercial game has been released today, Fight Night 4. It's getting some pretty good reviews :-)

Hey all,

Fight Night 4 for 360/PS3 was the last game I worked on at EA since I parted ways with them. I was responsible for hooking up many of their in-game HUD elements, plus several screens. The best thing I did, and my greatest achievement on the title, was creating the Amateur Tournament Tree screen from scratch. It is a fancy screen that allows the player to pan around the tree, zoom in to any match, and start an event (training, match, simming, etc.).

Anyways, it still feels good to have another game come out that I worked on. I hope to get a copy of the game from a friend because I don't want to shell out full price for it!

Here's a video review from IGN:

Any other boxing fans out there? Haven't seen Matt Rock around these parts in a while.

I'm tempted to nab it, my housemate has gotten me interested in boxing a bit (he boxes himself) and my other house-mate has Fight Night Round 3 on his PS3 and that was a pretty cool game.

A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into that game. Ok, more sweat than blood and tears. Lots of overtime meals and lots of layoffs--- fun fun fun!

I remember playing the first Fight Night that came to the 360, it was a lot of fun! It was the first game that made me awe at what the 360 could do. I believe Fight night was a tech demo of sorts for the 360, if I remember right.

That gave me a good chuckle.

Tried the demo, pretty sleek and smooth unlike it's previous installment in the series...

I tried the demo, it's not my slice of cake, but tons better than the new UFC game.

Your last title? You think you're going to get laid-off? I never got into boxing, more UFC than anything.

@Phaelax
A little late, he is laid-off. He was working on this before he left.

Yah, now I'm a programmer at Nokia. Not as glamorous as the game industry but there is NO overtime.

Overtime is great, if you're hourly. Salary workers, not so much (been there, ugh).

Looks amazing. If I had an XBox 360 and was more into boxing games, I would maybe get it .

Grr, I think my ethernet cable is kerfunked or AVG is saying 'no xbox for you' (I just downloaded AVG as my Kaspersky subscription has ran-out and I have my 360 on a network bridge to access the internet, hence the business with AVs) meaning I can't download the demo, which I was hoping to do.

Why am the last to know! Did EA lay you off or did you leave? Shock Horror!

Where have all you people been?

I have loved the Fight Night games since the first one... I have been playing the demo of this one since it was available for download. I don't know if it was just the demo but it definitely seemed harder than the previous game... Even on the highest difficulty number 3 was pretty easy to knock the ai out by round 4, but I was having trouble even getting one knock down in the demo...

My friend's Dad is quite high up in Nokia, not far from the directors, and he is quite well paid for it, though he has to go abroad a lot, but at least there's a free phone or a prototype once in a while. I suppose they're not a bad company to work for, though I've never heard anything from the programmers' side, but at least going from EA to Nokia still looks pretty damn good on your CV.

Thanks people. FN4 might seem more difficult because they've made it completely physics-based now. Sweat and blood are accurately done (i.e. punches on sweat) and the muscles flex properly. It isn't based on repetitive animations and button mashing. Actually they removed the button controls completely from what I remember.

@Jeku: Yeah, it is. A small search on communicator and I can confirm you're away right now, hehehe.

All thanks to the Internet.

What? They don't give programmers a free copy of every game they work on? Without the programmers the game is just a bunch of pretty pictures and music. That's so... evil.

Yeah, that's really evil. How many people work on a project? 100, 150 maximum? A company wouldn't be poor if they gave them all a free copy.

Your viewing thing sounds interesting, pitty it didn't show in the video review. Hey he said the menus were "slick" though
I bet you'll shed a tear when the next NHL game comes out lol
I downloaded a demo of the current one and it's really fun, I don't understand hockey but meh, I got a hat-trick with Zetterberg in one game!

Good luck with Nokia.
I also have started a new job at a computer repair shop, can't wait to hand my notice in at Blockbuster!

Wow, I haven't touched communicator yet, but I'm surprised you can check my status from another country

We just got a foosball table in the cafeteria so I'm warming up to the laid-back atmosphere of Nokia in contrast to the constant overdrive atmosphere of EA.

Well seeing as I'm no longer an employee, I doubt they'll bother to track me down and mail me a copy. I can pay $20 for a game at the EA store so I just have to get a friend to get it for me
