I am just wondering. I had Flight Simulator X on the computer awhile back and some of the updates were cutting it off so I turned it off. I haven't turned it back on since then.

My Dad is on Flight Simulator X from 9:00am to 5:00pm every day (he used to be a pilot)... he plays the occasional Bejeweled Deluxe. He has Visa and his doesn't actually update till he shuts down... it never cuts him off during a flight. I always keep mine off too and the screen saver.

That just sounds.... really tragic. Unless he's retired, then that's cool.

Yes, my updates are always on too, but I just auto-download and prefer it to ask me to install.

Interesting. Till last week I'd never had a problem with automatic updates - I was always prompted before a system restart took place and this usually happened at the end of a session anyway. But my wife says she was cut off while browsing a site using my new PC (which has Vista). Sounds like a setting somewhere needs to be tweaked. Any suggestions where to look?

Edit OK, think I've found it. Go to Control Panel/Windows Update/Change Settings. I've changed the option now.

Let's hope I got it right.

I do find computers baffling sometimes.

Poor guy, you should buy him a remote control plane or something . Then at least he'l be outside getting some fresh air.

Yeah he's retired. He doesn't just fly around he downloads new planes and remakes the panels so they look just like they should (most of the time the control panel for the plane isn't accurate or a copy of another plane). He'll spend hours just fixing the planes the way he likes and adds things like smoke trails. It would be hard for him to fly a remote control plane (since he won't be looking out of the cockpit).

Reminds me of my dad actually . He used to have this army game and he played it all the time, then one day my mum got sick of it so she smashed up the disk. My dad was never the same after that .

I like having auto-updates running once a week.
XP's auto update was the worst. The smallest of updates would require you to restart and it would nag the heck out of you until you rebooted. Vista was a bit better, but not too much.

Yep,
But windows 7 is done right this time, it'll say "You have new updates to install", and it'll download them before that nice and quickly, then it'll install them on users request or shut-down...

And it doesnt NAG and NAG on like XP... -.-
