It's a made up language based on BASIC. I think it has all of the commands of BASIC, including 3D commands like "make object", "position object" and so on.

Yes, its fun. Especially if you are into 3D. You can load models you have made in your favourite modelling program (export them in your 3d program to the .3ds or .x format for easy loading) and then make it interactive!

You can also create models from scratch using DarkBASIC commands. For example:

As you can see, it quite easy to read. The code above:

1) Creates a cylinder (object 1) and sets it to 100 units big.

2) The cylinder is coloured blue (rgb 0,0,255).

3)The object is scaled 200% in the Y direction (100,200,100).

4) The program waits for the user to press a key.

Not anymore but you can try the Darkbasic Pro trial. Pro is not harder than Darkbasic Classic... it just has a lot more commands.

I tried to make it short to avoid yet another Classic vs Pro debate.

I think after this:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=153004&b=10

we could go a few weeks without a DBC vs Pro battle

@That1Smart Guy- I really don't think that last debated proved anything. We all know DBPro has more features than DBC, but what's so great about that?

You can get DBC for free if you sign up to a marketing scheme, but I didn't look too far into the details as the bought version of DBC (£20) comes with some nice extras, like a big collection of media, some bonus commands like memblocks (incredibly useful).

You should try some games made in DBC... Starwraith, Soulhunter, Super Tito to name just a few good examples. Assuming that you don't need someone else telling you to look at DBPro - personally I think that either language has their merits, but one main one is that DBC has pixel perfect sprite collision, making it ideal for 2D games, whereas DBPro has much more 3D functions. It depends on the sort of game you want to make, but at least you can try DBPro and be assured that the code is not very different to DBC.

Lets agree to disagree.

Even though I prefer Pro... Classic will always have a special place in my heart. Because if it wasn't for Classic... Pro wouldn't exist.

pro has just as good sprite collision, and you can rotate and animate sprites so honestly I think its better in 2d as well

I dont know why I stay with DBC, I have pro but for some reason I just cant make the switch

Don't be too sure. The workarounds in DBC for sprites (dll's, plain objects) are very efficient are run just about as fast as in DBP. And a mod told me once that the sprites in DBP ARE plain objects...

Same here...
