I am current;y making a text adventure game using BASIC. I know that this is a DarkBASIC forum but I hear that they are about the same when it comes to making text games. The problem I have is that at the beginning of my game it will have a little intro. I want this to write across the screen. I don't mean use the PRINT command I mean for it to actually WRITE across the screen as if someone were typing it. With my minimal experience with BASIC I do not know if this is even possible. I assume that it is but if not please tell me so and I guess the PRINT command will have to do. If possible please explain how I could go about doing that.

I've done this. would u like an explaination or an example or the functions i wrote for it?

The functions i wrote require you to type it,in an external txt file.

Edit - I tried it and it is not compatible.

Yeah I really do appreciate the help but it doesn't work with BASIC. I guess I will hold off on making this game until I get DarkBASIC.

Yeah Basic doesn't do functions... or lack of line numbers.

It took longer to find GWBasic than it was to make this in it:

Ah. I downloaded it and converted the GWBasic to JustBasic. It didn't like the line numbers and the ! on the FOR/NEXT loop for pausing.

You really should get Darkbasic... I read some of the help files for JustBasic and saw Turtle Graphics. Just say no to anything that involves turtles.

I know I should get DarkBASIC the problem is that I can't. I do not have a credit card and my mom wouldn't let me use hers to buy it. I will have to wait until Christmas. Anyway.. the system worked great!!!!!!! Thank you for the help.

Np. Just keep working on her but you would get it faster if you earn some money (mowing lawns and such). When you get enough for Darkbasic Pro give her your money and ask her to buy it for you.

Yeah... that will probably work the problem is that I am 40 dollars in debt to her. I have the money to pay her but she refuses to accept it and says I have to work for it. So it could be a while before that happens.

Wow Obese. You might want to attend some school. You know, it isn't THAT bad. Maybe a year or two would teach you that a sentence isn't over until there is a from of punctuation. Just a suggestion though.

lol. before you start making fun of my name you MIGHT want to first learn how to spell. It is a very(Who would have guess?!!!! I can spell better than you. lol) useful skill in life to have. While you are learning the sentence thing just make sure to tell the kindergarten teacher that you need to learn spelling too. ahahahahaha.

Joking aside, thank you for the help Obese. You might not be able to spell or read but you sure know how to program. This is for DarkBASIC though and I am using JustBASIC at the moment. I actually think am going to hold off on the game that I am using this for until I get DarkBASIC anyway so it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for the help man.

ACP, why don't you check on the JustBASIC sight to see if they have a forum and look on there for use of JustBASIC, only until you get DarkBASIC though. Then, you better come back.

I'm not 100% sure because it's so long since I tried it, but I think the one I have on my web site lasts for ever - it should be the V1.13 one with limited functionality (line numbers and objects) if I remember correctly.

Yes - I know. My site has been hacked by Turkish a**holes yet again. As you can imagine I'm more than a little ticked off as it's the fifth time in as many months.

It happens before I've even finished building it so I never get chance to back it up.

No matter how much I beef up security, they keep getting in and trashing it!! Grrr...

This time, I lost all my new tutorials and it's probably only a coincidence but it happened straight after I installed a download component to allow the download of the V1.13 demo version of DBC.

How would they hack your site repeatedly anyways? This site never gets hacked.

If I knew how they did it, I could stop them. It's a Joomla CMS site, so it could be a component vulnerability. Who knows...
