Recently my sister purchased an LG300 phone with a prepaid service known as Net10. She got it setup and everything, only to find out that it does not work at home. It doesn't make any sense why it doesn't work at home, it just doesn't. She has to go three to five miles away to get it to work.

She then went and bought a Samsung T201G Net10 phone that does work, so I got stuck with her LG300 that doesn't work. Once the minutes run out, my dad will let me buy a new phone. I've read lots of complaints about the same exact problem we're having with the LG300, so I know that whatever problem we're having is specific to that model.

So I started searching around and found this baby for $50 USD at BestBuy.

I'm posting about it here because I'm wondering if anybody here may be using this phone or has used it in the past. I've done tons of research on it and so far I like the sound of it. The worst problem that somebody had was dropped calls, but that's only been reported in one review (and I've read lots of them!).

It isn't rated very high, but that's because people don't like how 'limited' it is (can't access the web like other phones, but meh. I don't care), but I only need it for texting and calling.

So, has anybody used this phone?

LG phones don't have a brilliant reputation for reliability. If you want reliability go Sony Ericson or Samsung.

I'd have to go with the Samsung, as that's the only other Net10 phone I like.

Thanks NeX!

The only real downside of Samsung phones is the software; it's often quite limited. My D600 cannot change its message tone (although oddly its ring and alert tones) and can hold only 120 songs in its MP3 player.

I have a LG Scoop and I love it, they do not make them anymore though, so they are bit hard to find but they great, especially for texting due to their slide out keyboard plus, I got mine for $50.

The problem is I can only get a phone with Net10 service, so...yeah.

The Samsung T201G is definitely what I'm going to get...although I love the look of the LG600G. I'm a sucker for sleekness.

Youre lucky. None of the phones ive ever had, worked. I have never been able to make a call or send a text with any of mine. They always not send or get delivered to the wrong person. Which is stupid.

So dont get any of these:

Nokia 6600
Sony Erricson k700i
Vodafone 810

What phone service were you using? Not that that really has anything to do with it, I'm just curious. Net10 I know is pretty reliable (for the most part), although their tech support is perhaps the worst I've ever seen for any company. I just can't afford to have a monthly contract/plan, so they're my only choice.

The Nokia and Sony were Orange. The Vodafone is Vodafone.

I think it's more of a problem with the person behind the phone... It's quite embarasing when you send a text to your girlfriend and it goes to your mum by accident...

Sorry, I just find that incredibly funny. I of course would die of embarrassment if I accidentally did that...but I don't currently have a girlfriend to worry about that happening.

Invest in a decent phone. I have an LG Shine and it's been great and durable. I'm selling it though to grab an iPhone...but it's done it's duty.

Grabbing any cheap $50 phone is definitely not the way to go unless you rarely use a cell phone.

I'd love to invest in a decent phone (preferably one that could access the web and has a slide-out keyboard), but I can't use any phone like that with the Net10 service and that's the only phone service I can afford at this time. 10 cents a minute really is hard to beat. I wish I could afford a monthly plan (with unlimited texting and calling), but I can't. It's just not an option for me right now. When I am of college age I'll likely be able to though.

But for now, a $40 Samsung will do the job nicely.

Hmm, that's funny, my brother's £40 E250 has been through a full washing machine cycle, has been left in a puddle in the rain for two hours, has been stood on, has had a cup of tea knocked over it whilst the slider was open and... uh... everything works fine. The screen went funny for about a day after it was left in a puddle but it dried out perfectly.

Someone at college has got a t201g, nice keypad, simple interface, solid.

Yes. Yes indeedy. I have the same phone and it's always getting bashed around, knocked and dropped and it still works absolutely fine. After a few too many at the pub I once decided to prove how awesome it is by hurling it through the air. The battery popped out when it hit the concrete but it all slotted straight back together nicely and it still works. Seriously, if I was paying £30 a month for an iPhone I would be paranoid about putting it in the same pocket as my keys or loose change and I'd never want to leave it on hard surface lest it get scratched. My cheapo E250 is just the kind of phone I need.

If it's not Samsung it's not a real phone...

This thread has definitely convinced me to get the Samsung T201G.

Thanks all!

Everyone has a dramatic cell phone survival story, it doesn't mean it's the norm.
