I'll click the link once I've played C&C3 for more than 5 minutes .

They are milking it now, like some old, past-retirement cow, they should stop taking pictures of her with pretty ladies and let her die in piece. If they can't do anything better than what they did with C&C Generals, then why don't they make a sequel to that. Or is it EA's rename and re-release policy coming into affect.

It actually kinda p's me off that it's so soon after C&C3 and they're marketing it already.
They start marketing a game that isn't out for another year, they start using '10 in the game titles right now, 5 months before the end of the year. What is it, once June is over with it's all of a sudden 2010!

How can they yank our chains like this, and make us wait hours downloading BF1943 on XBL, just to play it twice before it's expired. I've given more money to EA over the years than probably any other software company, I'm talking about spending £150 on the Battlefield line alone - I don't expect anything for free and BF:Heroes is very nice, but come on! let us have 1 level to play on without paying.
I'm probably gonna nip into ASDA on the way home and get some points for BF1943, but I'm also gonna promise my dad Tiger Woods 10 for his birthday, then not bother buying it. HA! revenge is sweet!

C&C games have been fundamentally the same since the original game. The core game is still dragging a selection box around some units, clicking on some enemies, and letting pre-defined completely predictable maths determine which unit will kill which. There is skill and strategy to them, but they're so soulless and boring, imo, and almost entirely devoid of innovation.

A prime example of improving graphics and neglecting gameplay.

Do you two REALLY think C&C3 was just a reskin? Are we on the same planet? C&C3 was much better than 2 I thought, and seems the reviewers agreed with their 85 Metacritic. Or did I interrupt an EA bash party?

I never liked 2 much at all either

Generals is just the best C&C game, playing against human opponents in skirmish mode at least. No limits, just build your army then have a fight. Probably not the best person to be playing RTS games, it's not that I dislike them, I just suck at them!.

By my rename and re-release comment, I was instigating that maybe C&C4 is a reskin of C&C3. It's not a EA bashing party, although if anyone throws one, I'd love to come, BYOB?

I would much rather see Generals 2 than another C&C so soon, I want nobody to notice their money is missing in HD. They wouldn't even have to do very much, just balance it a bit more and throw in tons of maps. I'd be happy to pay for that.

Yeah. It is LOADS better. I agree. But what I don't like about the C&C series is the fundamental gameplay remains unchanged. Maybe this is how it should be, since it's a series of games. It's just I can never get over the fact that games like Total War exist, where positioning of units, and morale, and fatigue etc. are critical to your strategy. Other games also make use of cover, high ground, inherent inaccuracy in weapons and the all important 'chance' and luck. A C&C unit however, is still just an entity that moves from A to B rigidly, ignoring real strategic considerations like cover, and fires directly at it's target, with 100% accuracy (ok, some exceptions, but essentially, all weapon effect are completely predictable). Big tank will always beat small tank, with almost no exceptions. There is nothing interesting about the combat.

The strategy lies in understanding the units and what to build, when, and where to place it, and what to attack what with. The actual combat strategy and simulation of battles is still very poor in my opinion.

I know most people disagree with me. C&C is just a pet hate of mine. But until you can defeat a mammoth tank with a jeep, using battle strategy, it'll always feel like a 'by the numbers' point and click borefest for me, with no true combat strategy. I know someone out there must think C&C is as lame as I do.

Phew. C&C mega rant done.

I guess I suck at RTS', because I have never completed a C&C game (and I have them all ). The one things I love about the series, besides the camp videos, is how the main gameplay doesn't change. I bought Dawn of War 2 and didn't like how they removed base-building among other major changes. I'm glad StarCraft 2 is keeping their gameplay the same too (with extra moves).

I dunno, I always liked C&C because of the sci-fi feel, especially the Red Alert and the Tiberian Sun games.

Anyways, there has been ample time for a new game in the series. It's not typical EA "once a year" kind of thing-- C&C 3 came out in 2006 if I remember correct, so 3 years is perfect for me.

Do you mean C&C Tiberium sun?! You are way wrong EA I hope does not ruin this. They went through a horrible phase of spitting out a crappy game every 20 secs and C&C3 was one C&C: RA3 was on the edge as it was not to bad. Although they have been not doing that as much they are making some pretty good things so far and I hope C&C4 will be good, unlike C&C3 which was terrible. Also I really hope they do some better plots, the same thing OVER and OVER again. Really it's just lets take 2 factions from the original C&C, make some units completely unrelated to the original and have them fight about 3 campaign missions with a super over powered 3rd race coming out of no where (the Japanese and the Scrin). C&C Tiberium Sun series, C&C 1, C&C Red alert were WAYYYY..better the anything EA can put out. Westwood had a much better vibe going when they made the C&C games.

(I am a C&C fanboy... )

Um, C&C came out many many years after C&C 2.

85 on Metacritic and several awards and accolades would beg to differ. But this is EA, and they're trendy to bash.

They have a reputation for creating crap, so why is this surprising? And I'm not just saying this to just counter your comment/view, but it's true. If you make rubbish, you get a reputation for making rubbish, and it sticks. So it's not "trendy" - it's EA's own past stupidity that has tarnished its own reputation. They may have corrected their course lately, but people remember when they see or buy a string of poor games from a particular publisher, and it's a side effect which will haunt them for a long time to come.

Good effort for trying to keep C&C alive, but it's not going to pull away those of us playing Starcraft 2.

Welcome to 2007 from whence they have been heralded for doing an about face in that regard. EA has been getting slammed by the stock market and been forced to do mass layoffs because they've been creating more new IP and less sequels and licenses. If anything Activision is the main villain in the shovelware crap department

RA3 was good, Japanese is overpowered though, although they might have patched that.

C&C3 is good too, pretty well balanced and good fun. I used to have late night 2 v 2s with friends but then people started hacking so it became pointless.

I look forward to the next C&C

I've been a C&C fan since the first version. I know some people complain that the basic core game play hasn't really evolved. Personally I think it's a great thing. I know when I buy C&C what I'll be getting, and how to play it. The formula works well for me, and as it keeps selling it must work well for most of their fan base! Plus C&C Typically comes with a decent single player story, plenty of video to watch. While it's not the most challanging single player you'll ever find, it is entertaining. Then when you're done it hop online and enjoy lots of community made maps, and playing with your mates.

I have 3 brothers, 1 doesn't get along with computers much so doesn't do much other than e-mail and surf. The other two however are always setting up matches between the three of us. Presantly Thomas is the most skilled. But it's always fun to make alliances with Peter, and see who betrays who first.
