I just looked at the unity3d "tropical paradise" demo...
all I can say is !
bloom, terrain, sliding collision, sounds, water shaders, swaying trees, birds, dynamic clouds, awesomeness!!!!!!
all in a flash object!
I wish you could embed dbpro in webpages...

link in case you haven't seen it:

CryEngine 2 totally rocks the house.

Why remake a famous game when you could create your own?

that's what i ment

Micheal P-
that demo was just a tinny bit laggy for me too, but it's embedded in a webpage, and is runned windowed, so that would be expected.

I probably wouldn't use it either ($$$), but it is cool to know it can be done...

Unity3D is a very good engine, I've played with the demo and it is good, it is able to do more than just embed to web, you can make games for Windows, Mac and the iPhone with it. But probably pricey for those who aren't old enough to get a job.

The indie version is pretty cheap (relatively speaking), but doesn't have as many features. Still, it's a stellar engine.

The features in the indie version as still pretty cool, it's just you can't use things like full screen shaders or render to images so you can't have water effects.

The indie version is cheap, but judging by the above posts, perhaps too expensive, especially if you're not old enough to go out and earn money.

How has such performance been dragged out of something running in a web browser? It runs really well here.

It runs well here, but I can't really compare, considering I'm running on my beastly computer which I named gloria.

This system is six years old and it's pulling 55fps on the shadows demo. It's incredible.

Must be the tea that got spilt on the graphics card earlier. I was careful to dry it. Honest. It's been working fine now for seven hours so it should be alright.

How did you spill tea on the graphics card? Was it out of your case or something?

What are peoples experience with Unity's documentation and ease of use? The demo is certainly nice, but I'm more interested in how Unity makes my life easier as a game developer.

The scripting wasn't too difficult when I played with the demo, and I quite easily got started in developing with it - the Lerpz tutorial is very good and helping yo understand how Unity works and it really breaks it down and walks you through into using their media into creating a 3D platformer.

For artists the editor is handy to use and I like its interface, and the good thing is, if you change a file because editing, for example you've got a 3D model, but you normals are all upside down, so you go back to your 3D app and flip the normals and save it, Unity3D will automatically update it.

It's a well thought out and put together engine.

It is a nice engine, I seriously considered buying the pro license, the deal breaker for me was the fact that for $1,500 US the real time lighting sucks ass in a massive way. I was torn between the simplistic dev cycle of unity and the advanced features of C4, well C4 won hands down. If you want to make browser games as well as desktop don't jump straight into bed with unity, there are others for instance: Visual3D.NET. I got a license for that because they are having an early adoptor promotion and I think it has potential. Although it's not released yet (still very much under development) it looks very promising, you can download the current internal/dev version, they call it the beta version but it's not.

Can't put the side on, it'll overheat. It's pretty close to the door.

I thought taking the side off would over heat it more?

I have extracters, vents on mine though, very arkward to out back on -_-

No, this is an old case so there's no vents at all besides one fan on the back.

This is from the time when electronics were designed properly rather than clocked beyond their limits as stock.
