Saw this up on polycount today and thought it was pretty neat. Game engines sure have come a long way haven't they?

That was very interesting Sid, thx for posting. Really makes me want to get back to playing some 90s rpgs and shooters.

Also, it was interesting to see the Dunia engine at the end of the list (meaning it to be the "best" engine as I would assume), Gives a reason why Far Cry 2 is so beautiful....

my taste in music isn't weird, its just so amazing your ears haven't quite adapted to it yet.

Interesting. I could have sworn Dark Forces was made with the Doom engine, but it states that while they were accused of reverse-engineering the Doom engine, it wasn't ever proven.

It lacks of engines. There were many incredible Japanese ones. One should be Crystal Tools (Made many beautiful DS games in example).

I know, it really makes me want to get into engine programming. I'm looking forward to the fall even more now, when I return to school for my Bachelors of Computer Science, Game Software Development degree.

Yeah, me too, returning for the 2nd year of the same thing, they call it "Bachelors of Computer Science with a concentration in gaming", love it so far, plus the whole college (or uni for you brits) experience .

@Gil: Nice! Glad to hear you like it. I'm pretty pumped. I've already got my animation degree, so I'm looking forward to applying that to the game programming classes. I'm not looking forward to the hours of stressful debugging and wrapping my mind around the code, but oh well... the benefits are so cool
