Geek Culture / Any tips on how to keep me focused?

I've been wanting to learn Xna for sometime now, but never stay focused, be it I have a good idea and try using dbpro to make it only to waste a month and fail, or a game (dwarf fortress) socks me in. I have books on it but i can never stay focused. I just want to know if anyone has any tips on how to stay focused.

Maybe putting my computer, TV, and systems all in one room wasn't my best idea.

turn everything off and read a book or just chill out.
i do all my best work at 4am and im sure its because my brain is supressed all day by tv etc, i always get inspiration when trying to sleep, then i get up and turn on the PC...
