I always hear phone company's ad's saying we are the best 3G buy NOW! and other company's say they are the most popular and stuff, but if there really not is that the same as false advertising?

Indeed, but nowadays many companies say they are the best just to get sales, and the problem is, a lot of them aren't.
But of course, they can say they are the best...

blah, i dunno.

Those commercials that say "This is what is happening now on the wireless network" are probably all made up. I think they exaggerate and make up statistics that are very hard to prove or disprove. One thing that caught my attention was "7 million teens are typing at over 70 WPM"

riiight...

Yes they can since they don't work for every company that's competition to their own company. It's just their opinion based on a limited view.

We can all safely say we're the best programmer on our block because there are probably no other programmers on our block... but the wider the field of view the less likely that statement is true. City wide maybe, state wide unlikely, country wide a lot less likely, world wide totally false.

Yeah, I've always why Verizon/Comcast/Dish network don't just sue one another and get rid of the competition.
I mean, they ALL say that THEIR Tv service has the most channels, most HD, blah blah bleh... But they can't ALL be telling the truth.
So why doesn't the one that IS telling the truth, and actually HAS the most HD or whatever, just SUE the other two for false advertising, and get rid (or at least damage) the competition?

I have a devious mind.

Company people always say that they are the best! They are supposed to. Would they be so great company if they said:
"We are not the best people to buy from, and not the cheapest at all! We are so expensive, that you shouldn't be even listening to me! We have 3G:s not so good that other companies have and they are more expensive! Yep. Those guys are the best! We just suck! But thanks for coming!"

I didn't think they typed words so it must be wrong.

usually when companies say they have the best product on the market, they quantify it somehow in the small print at the bottom of the screen, ie they'll give a rating an independant magazine gave the product, usually with a quote from the magazines review.

You're probably referring to Verizon, which does say it has the best 3G network, probably because it has the most coverage in the United States. AT&T advertises the Fastest 3G network in a similar vein.

I barely remember a commercial for some eyelash thing, in it, they said something about how 90% of people's first impression of someone is based on how their eyes smell or something-very-superficial-I-can't-remeber-and-I'm-glad-for-it. I can't put into words how dumb it was. I facepalmed for the entire human race at that point, and it was just one of those things I saw on TV that made me stop watching it on a regular basis.

So if companies can say they are the best, it naturally follows that they can also invent statistics.

right... meant texting >.>

the commercial said that X million teens were texting at over 70 wpm

I just don't listen to commercials anymore. If i'm watching TV, i usually mute it or look away during commercials. If they're ads on the computer, then i just ignore 'em.

I never like to watch live TV anymore thanks to our DVR. If the shows I like come on I don't watch it till later so I can skip all the commercials.

Hmmmm I am not sure...what about the carlsberg slogan, They cannot say "The best lager in the world", when it might not be true, and would be false advertising so they say "Probably, the best lager in the world"

So what if they said "We may not be the best lager in the world, but our stuff will leave you content!"?

In the beginning there was nothing. There'll be nothing in the end...
