We all have to upgrade our computers eventually. Some of us have done it multiple times while others are now on their very first "owned" computer (you bought and/or built the thing). When do you upgrade your machine?

I only upgrade when software comes out that no longer runs on my machine. I then check to see how far I should upgrade. No sense in overdoing it, y'know. And I have to do it within the limited budget I have for it. The machine I last upgraded from was a 2200+ AMD to my current Athlon X2 3800+. This was upon hearing that a lot of software in the future was going to require having dual core processors or better.

In the beginning there was nothing. There'll be nothing in the end...

I still have my second and third machines : both Celeron D's

My first one just stopped working...

Anyways, I only upgrade my computer when I have a valid budget.
If new games are coming out, and my computers can't support it (like they do now..) I won't get another computer until I saved up at least twice the amount needed.

Upgrading is out of the question for this machine. Celeron is just old.

Programming? Not my Forte. But THAT is!

I upgraded my pc when I could no longer run stuff on it.

I mean I'm part of a techie family so we like to try and keep updated but with pcs thats expensive. So really only when having 6 things open at once is sloooow then I consider an upgrade.

My last pc had an old motherboard so rather than upgrade the RAM and Gfx card (which would have had to be PCI) we decided it would be easier to just buy a new pc. As for how far to upgrade, we checked what was the min specs needed to run all my games / software and then found the best deal above that. My pc now was £600 and has 2.4 Ghz Quad core, 4gb ram, 1tb hdd, 9600GS Sli Gfx, so not a bad deal at all.

Whenever when you try to play a new game and the frame rate is bad to the point the game isnt playable. Which i would say would be anything below 30fps. That or if your friend gets a new buffed up pc and it makes you jealous.

I only upgrade when a game comes out which I want to play but can't run. Then I normally upgrade myself to the mid-to-high end of the spectrum, so that I won't need to do it again for a while.
