Geek Culture / Microsoft no longer hosting Halo Trial download

After reformatting my hard drive, I remembered the old Halo Trial. It was great because it only requires DirectX 8.1 and it doesn't take up too much space, as opposed to the full version of Halo, which is all bloat if you just want to play online. Now, for some reason it's not appearing on the Microsoft website any more. The CNET download is just for the dedicated server, too. Isn't that a shame? Well, as it turns out, if you search hard enough, there are still places on the internet hosting it. I'll give you a direct link to the 131 MB file because I'm feeling nice.

Download Trial

Wasn't the file smaller, though? I faintly remember some 70-100 MB file directly from Microsoft. I don't know, I'm just downloading it anyways. I just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone is into stuff like this, and to deter piracy of the full version.

What do you guys think? Is Halo still all it was, or is there something better now? I'm still a Halo fan. The graphics are still decent by today's standards, and it's got a lot more story than most other games.

WINNER list:
Brick Break, Latch, Lee Bamber, TDK, TheComet
Thanks for the help!

I liked the first Halo the most, but I think it might have been because I didn't really get a chance to play the other two.

Have you seen this? Live action Halo ODST trailer:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8zdkXtb9Yw

Agreed Sid, I played them all, and still think that 1st is the best, it's the most epic if you know what I mean - it gets repetitive but that's ok because repeating a section of Halo is no bad thing.

I thought the 3rd Halo was better than the 2nd, kinda got back to being epic again - Halo2 was much more close quarters orientated, I like the massive levels with vehicles so 1 and 3 suit me perfectly.

This just reinforces the theory that one day, Halo could make a very good live action movie.

I have to agree. Especially considering the last levels of 1 and 3 follow a similar theme, the theme of: "Operation Cheese It!"

Looking forward to ODST!

The trial is up on CNET too, it just requires some digging to find it. It's fun, but the lan play is busted, and I can't play it on the internet due to blocks.

I, too, love the first one most (though I still haven't played Halo 3 ).
