Hi everyone,

I've had my faithful laptop for a while, and I had Windows 7 and Windows Vista on it for a reason: My graphics card currently doesn't have a Windows 7 supporting driver so I have to switch to Vista for all my entertainment needs. Well today I bought a new PC I intend to use for gaming so I won't have to switch to Vista just for gaming so I decided it would be safe to delete the Vista partition of my laptops hard drive.. Well guess what: WRONG

After I deleted it (with BootIt NG) it will no longer start. I pass the little Compaq screen (yes... It is a compaq) and then I come to a blank screen with a cursor at the top and nothing happens. I stuck the Windows 7 disk in and the recovery tool couldn't detect any operating systems to recover but I checked with command prompt and everything is still there except the partition I deleted. Firstly does any one know what exactly I might have accidentally deleted? Secondly, does anyone know how to fix it?

My first idea was bootmgr, and seeing as I didn't see it on the Windows 7 partition I figured that might be what's stopping it, but I never got any error messages and I opened the bootmgr on my desktop but it's all jacked up characters, nothing that makes good sense like boot.ini

Ok the problem has been solved!

I went back into BootIt NG and clicked "Set Active" on the partition and I guess that's all it needed >.<

Windows 7 isn't bad, but I can't find a driver for the Intel GMA 4500MHD that supports 64-bit Windows 7. I did find one on Intel's site I believe but it came up with an error message saying it's only 32-bit. Oh well, I've got a Radeon 4650 which does have Windows 7 supporting drivers already

However, as of 9/7/2009 they do have working drivers for 64-bit Windows 7 RC1 I haven't checked since before then at least.

Not quite. It's good, possibly the best Windows so far and definitely a more agile OS than Vista. But it's not "God incarnate".

No OS will boot from an inactive partition.

I learned that I just didn't know it was inactive for one, and two how to change that.

Whatever man. Using Windows 7 is like looking into the face of God himself, and having him smile back at you saying, "You are my greatest creation."

Yep, Windows 7 is JUST like that.

I got my Windows 7 from TechNet. My laptop used to use vista, It used 90% of the ram with no programs open. Windows 7 uses 55% with no programs open. I'm using Ultimate x64 edition. It runs a lot faster than vista.

I had the same problem with drivers. Instead, I just installed the vista display drivers and they work fine.

Does anyone have problems with programs "Not Responding"? It developed this issue over time and seems to be getting more prevalent. I didn't start right away, it took a few months before it got obvious.

I have been looking on TechNet and other Microsoft support forums, and the problem is wide-spread. It's just that no one has any answers yet.

Brian.

XP uses even less than that

I have probably over 100 browsers open (counting all the tabs and whatnot) and still use less than 50% ram. The sad part, yahoo messenger uses more ram (100mb) than 30 IE instances.

And no I dont want to explain why I'm running so many IE windows.

Yep.
But don't use IanM's "Find Free Object()" command, that is the ONLY thing that freezes my app. I'm so happy I found it
