So I decided to clean my 5 year old keyboard... Hundreds of hours worth of counter strike, World of Warcraft and programming = disgusting stuff!

At the start:

I took all the keys off:

Yuck:

And then I put the keys in a bath :

Unfortunately the keyboard doesn't work anymore

Off topic: here are some funny pictures I took:

Maybe the keyboard servers are down. Have you tried rebooting your mouse in safe mode and formatting your monitor to run the Internet? You need to do that or the government will be able to watch you through your speakers.

The average smoker spends $1500 per year on cigarettes. That amount of money could feed 16 impoverished third-world children for an entire year.

Enjoy your cancer.

That's weird... all you did was pull the keys. Did you dunk the keyboard in water too and try to use it before it was totally dry?

If your keyboard was that bad, I'm surprised you didn't just buy another one

I mean, that keyboard really is disgusting. I've had them get dirty over time, but that one is on a different plane of dirtiness

Have you ever had all the keys out? You'd be surprised, it's quite mild compared to my clean-looking six year old keyboard I cleaned a few weeks back.

Yup, that will kill it for sure. If you stored it in a warm spot it would of been fine to use after a day of drying out... never plug a keyboard in while it's even slightly damp. The good news is you won't ever do that again so you've learned a valuable lesson.

I had that keyboard! Loved it, until it died.

But anyway, Electronics + Water = Death.

Those minor dirt splotches are more prominent in better light, along with the dog hair surrounding.

Sorry, I don't like upstaging people but too many "Wow that's diry" comments made me find my cam and take that picture, a second ago... heh

I used to have a zBoard. I had a full bottle of Coke on the desk with the top off. My brother knocked it over with a football and the whole lot filled the keyboard and then overflowed.

Took it apart, cleaned it with paper towels, left it in a warm place to dry. Next day it worked fine.

Next time it got wet, it was orange juice. Still worked, just the keyboard matrix was mixed up. :/ Best keyboard I ever had...

Speaking of keyboards, I hear they can get pretty dirty in terms of bacteria? I remember hearing that keyboards can be as dirty as toilet seats, although I've never personally sprayed liquid poo on my keyboard so I wouldn't know.

Anyway, I've been thinking about using these antibacterial wet wipes I have to wipe down the keyboard, mouse, and joypad I use. Anyone know if this might be a bad idea? I'm not sure if it'll leave some residue, so I'll just have to try it and see I suppose.

The same idea can be applied to a really old, really junkie car. You get an old clunker donated, and then you get a motorcycle helmet and a few different sized sledge hammers, and let people have a few swings at the car for $5 or so!
CASH COW! (Or should I say cash-CAR? Or cash cab... OR CRASH CAB?! ... ... ok. I'll stop now.)

I have a devious mind.

Wow that's really clean. Toilet seats are usually cleaner than most kitchen counters. It was proven on Mythbusters but I couldn't find a link. Here's are some other fun links:
