I installed dbc on my moms desktop and its giving me this error:

Quote: "System Error: Surfaces could not be created. D3D devices do not support backbuffer bit-depth and HW acceleration."


anybody know why? i just installed directx 9.0c aug 09. i am going to try and reinstall from microsoft. i got this one from filehippo but it has never given me problems before. hmmm

I don't know what's causing it. Are you running DBC? I don't think it's compatible with that version of DirectX.

Wait a second. I tried to run a dbp exe also and it didn't work. hmmmm i am going to download vc++(i need to anyway) and try dx there. it might be my install idk

It sounds like your graphics card doesn't isn't strong enough for 3d stuff (therefore directX can't work properly). Try going to Start->Run->dxdiag.exe and run the diagnostics for each of the different categories. See if it gives you any error messages.

I will run them, but this isn't technically a new computer. we had to wipe it clean and reinstall windows and it ran dx before. but again i will run them thanks.

All tests worked fine. I am about to test the directx examples that come with the it.

The problem is most likely due to the graphics card. Check to make sure the card has the most up to date drivers.

DirectX only uses the capabilities of the hardware.

Which is why it's useful here for us hobbyist programmers.

Latch is right, it's probably just that you don't have the most up-to-date drivers. What's the make of your graphics card? Do you know how much video memory it has?
