Ok, MODS, please don't lock this as i'm in no way doing anything illegal. Does anyone know if you can sell your retail version of windows on an auction site? like ebay cause i'm planning of getting windows 7 when it comes out and wont really need Vista so anyone know if i can sell it on ebay and are there any price limits i shouldknow about?

P.S. I can't stress this enough, i'm just looking for information on this tpic so sorry if i'm a bit paranoid about it being locked.

Quote: "Are you legally allowed to resell Windows XP Home?

If your copy is marked “Not for Resale” (usually copies that came with hardware such as laptops), You are not allowed to resell these copies of XP.

If your copy is not marked with this (typically XP Home Retail Version) you are allowed to sell your copy of Windows XP, however it is your responsibility to make sure that the buyer agrees to all the rules in the EULA."

Same is true for all Windows versions.

This is probably a better answer.
Quote: "You *can* sell it on: provided you have uninstalled it from your computer.

The OEM version is *only* for one computer, the full retail version *can* be installed on many computers provided there is only one copy at a given time.

If you activated the full retain version on one computer and subsequently install it on a different computer, the initial install (on the first computer) gets deactivated. The second computer is now recognised as running the official and legitimate copy. So if you sell it on, the buyer will get a message asking if this is a fresh install on a different computer. If he/she agrees, then they will be able to install a legitimate copy on their PC.

If it's a retail version and you uninstall it from your computer, you can sell it. You must deliver the disk and numbers to the buyer.

If it's an OEM version, even if you purchased it separately from your system, it is not for resale.

Keep it in your shelf and purchase the new version/update/whatever like so many others?

I've never sold on a program once I'm "done" with it. Let alone an OS.
Also, how much would anybody actually pay for a second hand, almost outdated, os? If they were indeed in need of a new one, I'd suppose they'd go with the newest on the market.

People are probably more likely to jump from XP to Windows 7, and skip Vista altogether

I expect trying to activate an oem install of vista when the key has already been used on different hardware is going to be fun.

I'm sure you would have no problem selling it. There are loads of oem copies of xp and vista for sale on ebay. Just don't expect the buyer to be happy if they buy it and can't use it.

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.

I do believe that if you sold your windows you would be at a higher risk of theft. (As in you being the victim) I mean, if I saw a gap where a window should be at night-time, I would certainly take a peek in and steal some cookies.

Yeah but if he has more than 7 the chance of a robbery is still there. If I were him I'd get 95, or maybe 98.

Ok, i'm, lost, how does it make me the victum if i sell it? and i've tried to install it on my sister's laptop WHILE i was using that version of vista and mine still worked. now if i did something illegal with doing that then i'm sorry about it but the windows still worked even though i reactivated it on another computer.

It was a joke. If a house had no windows burglars could get in easily. Geddit?

It's kind of like saying....

"Is stealing cable from my neighbor illegal? Because I've been doing it and it works, and nobody said anything. If it's wrong then I'm sorry, but it works."

Do you really want an answer to the question, or do you want to somehow be justified for doing it?

You phone up an automated phone line and it simply allows reactivation after typing in the key. I don't think it does anything weird unless they're particularly suspicious of the key in question (the amount of times it has been activated and whatnot) - or at least, the one time I've done that, it never really did anything other than request the key (no questions asked etc.)
