Hi, recently bought a PSP (fat, for the Infrared ), and easily obsessed like I am, I am customizing the heck out of it .
So I made this little movie, all in 1,5 hours of work. (Original footage had "EA" instead of the other text). Leave a comment and rate if you please!

The original version, unedited.

Thanks!

Jeff

I had to watch it three times before I saw that you had actually changed something. Good work!

One effect I've always wanted to see replicated is the one where you have a film of two different rooms, and the camera passes through a wall as it pans from one room to another. Apparently that's easy on After effects but I'd be impressed to see it.

...Pan both clips like a conveyor belt, place a blurred dark black rectangle matte between the clips? Sound would complete the look. That's how I'm doing it.

Yea, that's what I thought, not that it would be that simple, though; you'd need to record the clips: One that it's like it actually IS going in the wall, and one that it's like it's coming out, then apply Drew's idea.

Yeah totally, to do it properly you'd need to shoot two moving shots horizontally through the room, ideally right up to the wall, at the same speed.

Not necessarily. If you could shoot the video (or even a still photo) at very large dimensions, say 1440 X 960 (assuming your final product will be 720 X 480) then you could just animate the X and Y positions of the video clips, and place the black solid to be the "wall" in between them. I would do the same thing.
Obviously a still photo wouldn't work if you needed action such as a fight or a conversation to be happening in the shot, but if you just need a simple transition, that work work fine.

I have a devious mind.

@Mahoney:
Thank you

@Omega gamer 89:
I think it would look kind of fake, I'll try it out soon, and post the results here (once I have time )

You'd have to have the camera right up against a wall, and also the perspective would be all out.

No, no, no... What I'm saying is that you take a high-res picture (or video) in the middle of the room, with the wall still in view. Then you do the same with the other room, but with the opposite wall. Then you make your work area in your after FX project approximately half the size of the video or picture. Then you simply move the clips themselves within the project using the X and Y coordinates. Place a black solid shape in between the two images, so it looks like it passes through the wall.

I have a devious mind.

No no no... I get what you saying. But look at something in the distance, and then move your head from side to side. Notice how things that are close seem to move further? That's perspective. If you just use still images, you won't get that perspective effect, but you do with a film. Hence why still pictures would look fake.

Yeah, I've used still pictures in videos before for effects and they looked pretty bad. But, if one could use a 3D composite tool, you could theoretically rotate the image according to the angle that the camera is moving, and that could help the effect along. That's what I'd do.

I have found a new technique in AE's arsenal, called 3D Camera Projection, which basically transforms a single image in a 3D space.
Take a look (not my video!):

Trying it now, will keep you posted!

That would not be realistic, as Insert Name Here rightfully says you wouldn't get any 3D rotations of the objects in the background because the perspective is the same. Your way is cheap and would look crappy

You are both correct, ASSUMING that the camera is at an angle within the room. If the camera is parallel with the wall you plan on "moving through" and most of the objects in the room, it'll look just fine. I get what your saying though; if you're looking at a cube and you move to the left, you'll start seeing more of the left side. However, if you are completely parallel with it, looking directly at its from face, you will still only see the front.
I'll try and post an example later, probably tomorrow.

I have a devious mind.

Here we go:

Omega,

1) I said EXACTLY what you just said.

2) Google "Parralax".

The best way to do it is to get two horizontally tracking shots. Otherwise (y)our method will do but it's far from perfect. Animation method + horizontally tracking footage = correct.

No it won't - not unless the camera can only see the wall. I tell you what, go to any door in your house, open it, look through the door, facing the frame, and then move left and right. Notice how the objects further away from you move slower, even though you're parallel to the wall?

I'm always amazed to see that people who make videos of dancing Indians get more views/comments than something that took 1,5 hours to make.
I am not saying this to get more views or something, but what's your opinion about this?

Your video is superbly done, but aside from congratulating you on it, there is little else to say. Make no mistake though, it is superbly done.
