I have one major problem with Canalyst:

How are you going to top it?

You're setting yourself up; make a truly awesome game, then be hard-pressed to make a better one.

Can't wait to see how you do it.

It's too bad X9 doesn't support normal and specular maps, this game would look so nice if it did...

Nice screenshots just the same though

Model pack 38 has specular maps, and Bond's new model pack is going to have normal maps. Screens look amazing can't wait for this release.

Those two screens look very much like Mirror's Edge, but there nice.
But I think that the first screen doesn't fit whit the other screens,it's got a different style.

Both screenshots are inspired by Mirror's Edge.
The style of the first screenshot has something to do with the maintenance area of the hospital.

And thanks! I'm open for critics!

Yeh. The second screen is very cool. The first is lacking in a bit of atmosphere though. It looks pretty bland compared to the others. Perhaps a tone down in the ambience and a slightly coloured light? If anything, I'd say add some more entities - Some warning signed on the walls (exposed pipes etc). Perhaps you could also cage off one of the side areas, just to make it all look a little more interesting.

Thanks Butt monkey!
I will try to implent your ideas. I thought about a warmer light colour, too. More entities? Your word is my order!
First I finish the "hole" scene.

The game makes small, but nice progress.
Just got a script working. Now you can speak to the NPC in the first level.

Shadowtroid, thanks. The advertisment on the site is because of the domain. They have problems right now. Although I will get a .net domain soon.

I can't build any of the three levels right now (RAM issues), but anyway. Here are two map-editor screenshots of the room, I wanted to show you.
(The player start-point is just to spawn in the room directly. I don't like to run through the whole level, just to see the last room, I made. )

With the seams between lower and top wall segments, HUD and overall squareness of the map, I don't see why it wouldn't look like an FPSC level.

But it is a good one, nonetheless.

Seams are only a giveaway that a level-editing program has been used....which is used in numerous "non-FPSC" games. The HUD is removable and temporary; I would have thought you would have understood that.

As far as the "overall squareness of the map" goes; it looks like any other hallway I've seen in various games, like Half Life...for example.

I have to add: Typical Russian and Western Architecture is..."square"

And on another note... It is a sign of quality if you don' t see that it is made with fpsc. If you see that it is made with fpsc immediately, you should rewise the map.

So, here we are again.

Seven months, and even more on this forum, have passed since we had our last news release. But hey, we are really proud of what we have created in that time. We made another little break, to get new inspiration, have discussed about the game and how it will move on, refueled our energy and are now back again! And we have some strange news for you.

We are not sure, if you already heard about this, but we received some strange messages from a mysterious man. He calls himself the "Y.M.C.A. Barman" and comes from Moscow's underground. He said, he stumbled upon a "secret code" and wants you to decode it. Probably that furious man is right and the message in the code might be of your interest. Give it a go.
Here is his Twitter account: @YMCABarman.

Some really cool things are happening right now. Maybe even for you... However, these strange notes by him aren't the only reason, why we decided to post this news, but we also figured that it's about time to give you some more detail on our latest work! In the last few months TheK worked on getting level 1 working in the engine (maybe some of you saw him saying, that he has problems with starting it.) But here's the good news: After four months of testing, trying and figuring he managed to get it to work properly and one, long, long, chapter is coming to an end.

Said level already had to undergo, several, changes and complete redesigns and it took us a lot of work to get it right - but the concept and level is finally set in stone completely and the only thing that's left to do is: Gameplay!
Many sleepless nights have passed on all the decisions of how the game should start, and the player learn the controls and base game mechanics. And we are proud to say, that we are finishing up an interactive tutorial that will teach the player all the controls, while still keeping it interesting and fun.

...and because a big pile of text, probably, isn't enough after this long time, we also prepared some screenshots for you to enjoy:

So, that's the most recent news for now, if you have any feedback, be sure to drop us some comments and as always: Stay tuned for the next news release!

Greetings,
Sector49 Studios Team

Hey sic1ne,

it's quite easy to fix the problem you're encountering - just open up the setup.ini located in the game's directory and replace the "width" and "height" fields with your own resolution.

The demo however doesn't really represent Canalyst anymore, since the level isn't even included in the game at the current state - but is still fun to play through.

All the new screens look superb! I'm impressed with your workmanship. I also think its funny that you took the
cartoon pack and made some of the characters, "child's toys". That was pretty classic. Since you are back Doomster, I have just a small
question to ask you via email. I'm going to send it shortly.

EDIT:

Two emails have been sent. I accidentally sent the first one before attaching the file. The second email has it however.
