Sorry for the double-posting. I just updated the first post, so newcomers to Canalyst get the new information of the game, not how it was when I posted it here. The game also got a new logo.

Best,
TheK

It's mid of August, the sun shines and the wind's gone, but we won't use that as an excuse to pause the development, but keep working on this project - in other words:

We are back with another very, very exciting news-release! Some of you might heard about the mysterious man, who calls himself "YMCA Barman". He asked you to help him out with some strange code, he found lying around. We don't know how many of you tried to find out the secret message, but as we count, there are only five of you, who solved the little puzzle. We'd really appreciate more interest next time.

However, there is another reason, we are releasing this news. Sector49 founder Jan Maslov (TheK) started the Canalyst project exactly two years ago. After that three awesome guys joined the team and the Sector49 team became what it is today. Thank you all very much!
To celebrate this day, we prepared some awesome things for you.

First: Canalyst second birthday wallpaper
This cool wallpaper for your desktop will make you remember about this day.

Also available in the following resolutions (Right-click and select "Save as..."):
1024x768
1280x800
1280x1024
1440x900
1600x900
1680x1050

Also the new Sector49 website goes online:

http://www.sector49.net (Will be online sometime today)

And the third thing is probably the most awesome thing about this. We have released a new Canalyst trailer showing many of the levels and gameplay!

Russian version
English version
German version

So, that's the most recent news for now, if you have any feedback, be sure to drop us some comments and as always: Stay tuned for the next news release!

The trailer is one of the best I've seen for FPS Creator games!

Although the environments are very well done, the game-play aspect is pretty much lacking depth. I do understand that it is still a Work In Progress but I am not convinced to play this game for enjoying the game-play. Visually, it looks stunning, but again what good are visuals if you can not enjoy them with a balanced and well paced game-play.

Wishing you guys all the best with this and any other project!

Well... I have to give credit where its due... and I say it looks great. A lot of the environments towards the end reminded me
of Nova Prospekt in Half-Life 2. I definitely think this game has massive potential.

Hello there!

Quote: "the game-play aspect is pretty much lacking depth."

We have quite much planned for the game. But we'll reveal more informations as soon, as we get them working, which probably will take a while, because we focus on the level-design and scripted sequences first.
We will also take another look at the fights. But that after we released the new demo.

Quote: "I definitely think this game has massive potential."

Thanks, ASTEK!

Quote: "Very good trailer; left you a comment. "

Thank you for that, Keith! Appreciate it.

Everyone else: Keep the comments coming, I'm always open to critics.

Best wishes,
TheK

The trailer looks great, however, one thing that really annoyed me was the sound of the pistol - It's far too high and nasally and, from the video, lacked any feeling and satisfaction. I think a big, beefy sound would resolve this issue.

Are you also planning on removing the crosshair when the player goes into ironsights?

Hello Butt monkey,

thanks for the critics. We are currently working on completely new weapons for the game. This includes better sounds.

Of course we will remove the crosshair in ironsight-mode. We already fixed that, but it wasn't in the builds, in which I recorded the fight scenes.

Best wishes,
TheK

Finally!...

Some months passed without any new words on Canalyst, but now we're finally back from the, endless, depths of Moscow's underground.

From yesteryday night, till this early morning, people celebrated Halloween, and as Horror-developers we do that as well, although a little differently than most other people.

TheK's been busy, working on another Canalyst wallpaper, just in time for Halloween, and even created variations in resultions up to 1920x1200 (he's not one of those folks, that do things halfheartedly, as you can tell).

This time, our beloved Monsters gather in a creepy forest at nighttime and tell each other scary stories, that is, until they notice those deep red, glowing eyes behind one of them. Have fun with that! (Clicking the picture brings up another site, that allows to choose from the available resolutions.)

However, don't jump to the conclusion that we haven't done any actual work on the game, because we have another news, that easily surpasses the wallpaper!
The last trailer already announced it, but now, after a long, long, time it's finally here: The new Canalyst Demo!

This chapter in Canalyst's development was awfully strung-out and, often, pain in our rears, but now that it's over, we can't help but smile and be proud of the work that flowed into the reorientation of the game, more precisely, the introduction into the game.

We decided to change the background story, added new levels, while others were dropped - with the goal to tell the story within the game, and more detailed as before.

This demo will capture you into the very first two levels of the game, that go into detail, on how Sergey ended up at the canalisation, and what happened twenty years afterwards.

For better immersion, the voice acting is purely russian (but comes with english, and later also german, subtitles), multiple cutscenes are included and even an elaborate, interactive tutorial that teaches the player the game mechanics.

In addition to the Demo, we also thought it'd be nice, to catch up on the release of screenshots, and present two new ones.
This time, in a resolution of 2940x1838 pixel, to make sure, that no detail is left undiscovered.

Well, only one thing is missing, and probably the most important part, so, here's the download link to the new Demo: http://sector49.net/canalyst/demo/canalyst_demo_new.exe

Note: Before jumping straight into the game, please take your time to adjust the settings via the Canalyst Launcher, since they're currently on "Low", which wouldn't be recommended, atmosphere-wise.

System Requirements

Minimum

Dual-Core CPU with 2.6GHz (Intel Celeron E3400 or comparable)
1GB RAM
Graphics Card with Shader Model 2.0 support and 256MB (Nvidia GeForce 6800GT or comparable)
~400MB of free space on your HDD

Recommended

Quad-Core CPU with 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or comparable)
4GB RAM
Graphics Card with Shader Model 3.0 support and 512MB (Nvidia GeForce 8800GT or comparable)
~400MB of free space on your HDD

So, what's left to say? Have fun diving into Moscow's underground and exploring Sergey's background - we'd appreciate to hear your opinions!

Thank you, Keith!

To keep you guys kinda' updated: We just began to work on the level after the demo ends starting with a model: http://img7.imagebanana.com/img/u25jkn37/metro_tunnel.jpg

It will be a pretty interesting level (we don't even have a name yet, probably "l02_tracks" ) and it will bring the story on a bit.

Jan

Thanks, Beno09!
I made the launcher with the help of Visual Basic 6. When you know how to use it, it offers many possibilities, that you can use. The only problem is, that it's a little bit old and sometimes things doesn't work the way you want them on newer systems. But most of the time there are several ways on how to make the same effect.

Jan

Thank you, Leongamerz!

I'm gonna' copy over, what I wrote in the Showcase thread:

Alright, we are rolling out the demo-patch! Links are available right now. There are a fully patched demo and a patch for those, who still have the unpatched demo installed and don't want to download 140MB.

Full demo (already patched)
Size: 137 MB
Directly from our server: http://sector49.pf-control.de/canalyst/demo/canalyst_demo_new_patched_full.exe
Mirrors: http://www.multiupload.com/7O5X40M4OC

Patch from 1.0 to 1.1
Size: 34MB
Directly from our server: http://sector49.pf-control.de/canalyst/demo/canalyst_demo_new_patch.exe
Mirrors: http://www.multiupload.com/NOKIOET7WK

Known bugs
- Cutscene at the end of the demo plays twice
- After loading a saved game, a Makarov pistol is floating in front of you.

Fixed bugs
- Fixed collision problems in level 2.
- Fixed crash in the beginning of level 2 by reducing the amount of used memory.

We also added some little features to the launcher, like a first start-message for you to take a look into the options and a new available screen-resolution of 1366x768 pixels. Also the launcher now automatically sets the best screen resolution for you at first start. You can still change it later.

Jan

Alright guys, as I'm back from hospital and won't go to school for some time, it's time to get some work done on the game.

Just wanted to give you all a little update on this, saying that we already plan the little christmas present and the traditional FPSC wallpaper, we release for Halloween and Christmas for two years now. Also we will update our website with a little more christmas-ish look in a week or so.

So, there will be a few new things in this thread soon!

We will not be talking much this time. Time for facts. Canalyst wasn't worked on much in the last month. The reason why, is that I was in hospital for an operation and needed to get a little better before starting to work on it again, which is pretty much right now.

Anyway, we talked to each other in the team pretty much in that time and finally we are ready to begin to make Canalyst a little bit more... popular. The first step in doing so would be a nice second title.

And for this, we need you and your inventiveness. We were thinking for pretty long, what the game could be called. "Canalyst" is a well known name in the FPSC world and we don't want to change that. We want to enhance it with the second title, make it better, more catchy, more memorable.

So here are a few examples:
Canalyst - Forbidden Path
Canalyst - Last Chance
Canalyst - Passing Lights

OK, now call your friends, your mom and dad, maybe even your cat or dog and get your brains steaming and your title might become the official one! To nominate one, just write the title you made up under this posting!

Time: Until the next news release.

depends on the story, characters and surroundings so it is not easy for other people to find titles for YOUR project.

i like PASSING LIGHTS or DARKEST HOUR for post-apocalyptic atmo.

here you can get a little overview of the beginnings of this project. Will probably give some tips on how a game grows up and what can happen and what not.

Just read it guys.

Phew! This year was really cool! Many nice things happened and there was much progress on Canalyst since the last "end of the year" news release. We are really proud of our work and would like to thank you all, who supported us and has been watching the development of the game.

Now on to the Canalyst logo in this news. We were thinking for pretty long which one of the nice titles all of you nominated would fit the game and its feeling and what not. The people in the team liked it and we got pretty good comments on that title from you, too, so we decided to take "Passing Lights" as the new second title for the game! The logo will be remade though.

In 2012 we will really try to finish the game. We aren't absolutely sure, but chances are good that it will. And for this we would like to start a little series of desktop calendars. For you this means: Every month a nice calendar on your desktop and a new screenshot directly from the game. If you don't get what we mean, here is the first calendar-wallpaper for January 2012. It's available in two languages, English and German, and ten resolutions.

English:
http://sector49.pf-control.de/freebies/calendars/jan2012/eng

German:
http://sector49.pf-control.de/freebies/calendars/jan2012/ger

It's pretty cool and practical and shows the first scene of level two.
Besides the new wallpaper we updated the Canalyst profile to make it a little bit more graphically decent. You should've noticed it.

So, we don't have much more to say, but wish you a happy new year and all the good!

Everything looks great so far for this project, the changes on website are good.
Can this change of title mean something, like there will be "Canaylst 2" or something like that ? I hope that there will be something like that

Thank you, Keith!

Beno09, the title change was done, because the game didn't get much attention. We hope, now that the name is a little longer, it will be a little easier to notice it between the other games.
We are not planning any sequels to Canalyst. There were some ideas, but as long as the FPS Creator engine can't support free-roam worlds, they couldn't be realized.

Instead we will move on to another engine, which is more powerful. We don't exactly know which one, but we currently are looking at Leadwerks and the UDK.

By the way, here is the screenshot from the calendar - screenshot number 50!

I think you could use Cry Engine or maybe UDK.I think Cry Engine and UDK is good.So you choose it and you need practice alot.Actually my PC can't use UDK huaah maybe windows 7 not supported by UDK.

As much as that makes sense, I think its just the forums don't see as much action as they used to. To me, Canalyst was fine by itself.
