Look at these websites:

I was wondering: Hmm, why don't I make a new website. And then this is the crappy results I get. Even after trying three different themes, I wasn't able to make one decent looking one.

In the last one, there's a new colour theme on each page reload, which is pretty cool. But it doesn't help when that is the only thing that is a little bit interesting.

To be fair I like both one and three. They're just a bit different.

I think the large text across all of the pages ruins them.

Yea, I guess with a decent looking seamless background (carpet, wood, or something) the #1 might look better. I spent about thirty minutes on the logo for #1, and about five minutes for the programming (another reason why design/art is so frustrating)

But I can't understand why the #3 design looks good to you guys. I thought it was the worst out of the three.

Don't be too hard on yourself, they're not that bad!

The first one, with a little tweaking, could be a very good design. You just need to practice, practice practice. Make concept art in a paint program (like GIMP or PhotoShop), and keep modifying it until you're happy, then start the coding process. I think the hardest part about design is trying to code a design from scratch without creating something to use as a reference; I learned that the hard way.

I wish you luck!

the first one isn't terrible, and the second one is quaint. the third one does suck though.

here's a pic of one i did a while ago: pic

Remember those old guys? They made epic renders, I think one of them was called DaVinci, and all they used was MS Paint. Sometimes it's just skill....

The poor grammar on the pages is what bugs me the most (yes I know it was on purpose).

Here's a recent design I made, which I'm still trying to get a hold of Josh to show it to him. pic

Took a few minutes away from screwing around my new yet worthless NAS, and threw a design together for ya. AllwaysAfraided

Yeah, no design could save a site with grammar like that. (Although Phaelax's design is pretty sweet)

As Phaelax already mentioned, the grammar is purposely written in that way. Why? Whell.. Mhy English is the not good in one writing for language. Also I find the name "allways afraided" hilarious, and what better way to surprise the visitor with poor grammar; but incredibly good games (who am I kidding, my games suck).

By the way, I downloaded a background from the internet. nr 1 website template now looks like this, which is an improvement. But I am not feeling confident in it. In other words I don't think I would use this template myself.

I like your logo Lukas.

A thief game? I am intrigued, it's my favorite game. How are you going to handle the light meter?

Even though the project have been left to collect dust for a while, I occasionally get back and work on it. Thief is my favourite game as well.

My biggest concern isn't the light meter though (it has already been coded, but a little tweaking will have to be done to support moonlight) but rather the ragdolls. I haven't been able to figure out how to get them working in physx yet, and it is demotivating to continue working on the game when this problem exist.

here's the lightmeter in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nygA6BpWOZo

in general, "allways afraided" just has way too much attitude.

I'd say find a better font and remove the borders from the images.

Some people think bad grammar on the internet looks cool, and for others, it's a turn off. For me, personally, I think only cute kittehs like LolCats can pull it off successfully. But, everyone has their own style and if we all listened to what everyone else thought was good, then we'd probably never get anywhere 'cause there will never be 100% agreement on what's good and what isn't. :}

Whenever I read "allways afraided" I think picture a kid, whose mother language isn't English. He's incredibly scared of everything, and when his doctor asks (this doctor is a natural in English of course) "How are you feeling?".

The kid answers with large eyes, on the brink of crying, and a soar throat from screaming so much; "I allways afraided".

It's just too funny. Maybe I'll draw a picture some time of that scene in particular.

But personally though, I simply can't stand reading bad grammar. Which in general means I don't like to read my own posts. I put, commas on the, most weird. places,
