I should mention that the latest version of Visual Designer is a separate download, at least my version of PureBasic (download) comes with Visual Designer from 2006. Most recent version of VD is available here. I guess this will help to eliminate some confusion about it.

Thanks for pointing that out, Olby. The visual designer is free so you don't need an account to download it.

The problem with the Alpha version of Visual Designer I am having is that it overwrites the Purebasic.exe file. So have reverted back to the previous version. I hope this gets fixed.
