Background

In the distant future, several colonization ships journey to Pandora, a planet on the edge of the galaxy. The colonists are drawn to the planet in search of a better life and the prospect of striking it rich by claiming the vast deposits of mineral resources rumored to be there. After finally arriving, the colonists discover that the planet is barren of anything of significant value other than deteriorated alien ruins scattered across the land. Those who can afford to do so leave Pandora, and the lives of those who remain revolve around chaos and lawlessness. Some of the settlers seek to get rich quick by discovering alien technology, but most others are just trying to survive. After seven Earth years, Pandora's orbit brings it to the transition from winter to spring, and many horrifying creatures emerge from hibernation.

Quote: "Borderlands is a science fiction role-playing shooter (a first-person shooter with RPG elements) that was developed by Gearbox Software for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The console versions of the game were released in North America on October 20, 2009, and were released in PAL countries on October 23. The Windows version was released on October 26 for North America and then on October 29 for the rest of the world.[1] The game was first revealed in the September 2007 issue of Game Informer magazine."

Quote: "A beacon of hope for the remaining colonists emerges in the form of a mysterious vault carved in the side of a mountain. This vault is said to contain vast stores of alien technology and secrets. However, the people who discovered the vault were completely wiped out by some sort of protective force, and the only evidence of their discovery is a scattered radio transmission proclaiming the vault's majesty, but not its location."

While this game has some little faults it does have one thing that I really like and that is variety. There are sooo...many guns in this game

What do you guys think?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borderlands_%28video_game%29

I have it and thinks it's awesome. Are you playing the 360 version? If so let's play some co-op some time.

Unfortunately no, I want to get the 360 version, but I only have the PC version right now. I might buy it, but I would not like to spend the money to and I am saving up for a zune HD. Also FOR GOD SAKES! Finally some company is smart enough to include split screen!

Edit: What class are you I just started and am staying with the hunter.

Yeah I also chose the Hunter. Bloodwing is awesome once you start putting stats into it.

I remember seeing early production screens of this game about 4 years ago, and the graphic style has change dramatically. Not sure I like the cartoon shading style as much as the original style, but I guess I'll get use to it. I think I'll pick this up for the PC in a month or two once the price drops.

I'm about to get this game today. Thraxas has been trying to get me to buy this one and Dragon age. I caved in lol. It just looks too awesome. I just read that there are over 17,750,000 variations of weapons. That's a lot lol.

Signature's are stupid.

That number is a marketing scheme. The game randomizes all the gun elements and stats, making a large number of unique guns. But it's not like the developers custom-made every single variation.

I'd like to see the calculation required to make that figure, actually... probably along the lines of 20x colour schemes X 10x handles X 10 barrels X 5 iron sights, etc... Interesting way of doing it.

Athlon64 2.7gHz->OC 3.9gHz, 31C, MSi 9500GT->OC 1gHz core/2gHz memory, 48C, 4Gb DDR2 667, 500Gb Seagate + 80Gb Maxtor + 40Gb Maxtor = 620Gb, XP Home
Air cooled, total cost £160

I do think it'd be pretty fun to make a system like that. There's loads of things you could change. Barrel tip, the top grip(?), front handle, back handle, back front... uh.. slide? Loading mechanism (revolver, etc) and colours... ah, yes, material. Wooden minigun anyone?

@IanM - Yes, I can confirm it has great single-player. While it may be perfectly suited for multiplayer co-op, it's not a requirement.

Digging this thread up, because I just got this on Friday and have not stopped playing it.

I have Modern Warfare 2, L4D2, Forza3, Gay Tony, and others that those don't get a look in right now. Playing split screen mode with my brother who usually hates these games (thinks Fallout3 is stupid, and WoW is a waste of time). We're having a great time, and so far the game has been very challenging, scraping by on respawn ammo handouts sometimes.

It's the best game I've played in months, and is insanely enjoyable in multiplayer - especially split screen I think if you find someone who can get into a game like that. These days, when I find a game that has a bit more depth to it, something you can get your teeth into and will last a good couple of weeks - well it's getting rarer and rarer that we can do that with console games. Borderlands is a step in the right direction for console gaming... console gamers don't all get bored after 2 hours of the same game.

I was tempted to buy this, then got roped into MW2 by mates. I'll probably give this a bash when the MW2 bug has worn off. Thanks for your useful thoughts chaps.

i have this game for the PC, and i gotta say iam just as dissappointed as i was with hellgate london, in fact, the games are the same, set in different worlds.

sure, there is a lot of gun variations and such, but, the quests are mostly the same, run there kill that, the storyline barely exists, i havent played that much though, only at 3rd or 4rth boss. The enemys are pretty much the same: 3-4 different bandits, and 3-4 different skags, so much for variety

the veichles u can choose from is.. in fact 1 veichle with either an rocket launcher or a machine gun.. so much for variety, again.

the people u meet is though, very interesting in personality, not that they talk to much. so far i've met 3 different friendly NPC people, and they have a nice variety of personalities. and the robots are cute.

the lvl up system is pretty.. booring imho, you get one skill and then its just abbilities that mostly attain to that skill. (at least the warrior)

The start of the game is pretty good though /after u get of the buss\ its action paced and just brilliant. until u get ur first quest.. killing skags, second quest, killing bandits, third quest, killing skags, fourth quest, killing a boss.. u get the picture.

edit: i gotta say i love the graphics though, brilliant^^

i have only played the SP part of the game though.
6/10, no more no less.
