This is a map editor I'm working on for my game. So far I've got some basic UI functions and tile placement.

I've attached a demo if anyone want to try it.

Controls
Mouse wheel zooms.
Middle button pans the viewport.
Alt+Middle button rotates the camera.
Hold down Right button when placing a tile to rotate it.

Next up is:
-Improve the tile placement
checking if a tile already is occupying the area...
-Improve camera movement

Pretty good so far.

The only thing I missed were some icons to preview the tile. Maybe if you select an item from the listview and a preview image appear above the add button?
Another thing was a clone/copy feature. Maybe holding the ctrl button while clicking on an already placed tile, it selects that tile from the listview and you can place it (without having to press add).

It was a bit odd to hold Alt and Middle Mouse Button to rotate the camera, it might be more convenient to rotate the camera using the right mouse button seeing as that button isn't in use in the 3d view.

Other than that, it was very easy to use, and building a small city, if you can call it that, doesn't take more than five minutes or so.

Will this be top down game like GTA(2)?

What about buildings?

You editor runs fine on my PC but menus do not work and seems that app doesn't redraw or update the window. I see garbage on screen.

XP Pro SP2.

Some updates:
-Now you can't place tiles so that they intersect
-Holding down control while placing tiles allows you to place multiple tiles

Menus does nothing so far except for exit
Right button will be used for context menus.

Yes the game will be a top down shooter.
Buildings are coming when I have some basic models to test with.
What kind of garbage? Is it in the viewports?
Only time I see garbage is when I run the application in fullscreen and alt+tab out of it.

I'll post new and smaller images next update

I attached screenshot about problems.
If you scroll with mouse scroller then it zooms in and out but just doesn't update window.

And to use menu items you can't point exactly to menu item for it to become red. Mouse is far away from text and only then menu item becomes red.

Just like big offset from menu and cursor.

And im unable to place tiles. What is the command?
Tried with left MB and nothing.

- Some bug fixes

To place tiles just choose one from the list and press the add button
then place it in the world with left mouse button.

Still same. I can't even see that blue bottom part of the editor.

What resolution you are using to develop this?

Updates
- Now you can move or delete existing tiles in the map.
Select with LMB while selected press delete to remove tile.
- Switch viewports Split screen, Top view or 3D view
- More bug fixes.

Last version used 1440x900 for resolution, but in this new version I've reduced it to 1024x768.
