New screens of level 2! Bare in mind that these are WIP shots, and will most likely change by the time I'm finished the map.

I would really appreciate it if you guys took the time to me me what you think of the shots and where I should improve.

Thanks,
dimre

While the shots themselves are great, there is one thing I am a bit concerned about. The amount of detail put into each shot is amazing, especially for your first public FPSC project. However, looking at it from a design point of view, there is very little flow in the screenshots. It seems very cramped in these most recent screens. Also, on the stairs from model pack 3, use the segment marked Open. It has some railing that surrounds the stairs, making it look better. Your earlier screenshots are a bit empty, and your most recent screenshots seem too cluttered. The only real thing that I would recommend is to check out some level design theory books (I'm reading a bunch of them, and they're really interesting to me. Let me know if you want some links to online books). Knowing the theory behind what makes a level good helps immensely with the layout of the level itself.

Wow, thanks so much for the reply man! If it's not too much trouble, could you link me to the online level design theory books you were talking about?

haha, that's not entirely true. I'm currently in the process of 'cleaning up' those hallways I showed in my previous post. Yeah, i'll still have some entities laying around the floor, but not as much as I showed before so the player can navigate around more easily.

Looks good, however I question the boards going from barbed wire to bronze pipe. It doesn't look like it has a true purpose there, nor does it look like it's stable enough to stop the planks falling.

@Metal devil:
Thanks! Yeah, i'll prolly remove the URL from the sign.

@AAGreen and Violent Pigeon:
The planks are part of a puzzle in the level.

The flashlight in the last shot looks good; lit properly. The layout also looks very good. Not sure about those boards though.

As I said before, I just enabled anioscopic filtering and antialising in my GPU control panel. Google it for instructions.

Feedback is always welcome

the video isn't bad, although I see quite a few "leaks" in that alley part where I can see the skybox. not to mention the light on that skyscraper. it doesn't work with the forced perspective. the textures are very high quality (tell me how to turn up my gpu?) and the gameplay liiks fun although some sections of the level look poorly built and thrown together. make sure every section is completely polished before releasing it. I smell a BOTB if you work hard.

Thanks for the in-depth feedback man
Yeah like I said it's still a WIP and it needs quite a bit of polishing to be perfect.

And just google how to enable anioscoping filtering. However, I would'nt recommend enabling it on lower end/integrated graphics, as it takes a pretty big chunk out of the game's performance.

Thanks again

No, it's not the skybox outside the window, there's part of the level there. It's just the angle I took the screenshot at; it made it look like there was nothing outside.

I like the color of that light, first off. But I do have to ask, why would anyone put in a window to view underneath a set of stairs? Yes, it does add to the environment, but if you stop to think about it, the placement of that window doesn't make all that much sense. Aside from that, the screen looks pretty good. Nice job.

I thought the same thing, also, what is under those stairs? is there another path leading under them? if not than it looks like there's no way those barrels could've got there.

haha yeah thanks I'll change that.

Quote: "also, what is under those stairs? is there another path leading under them? if not than it looks like there's no way those barrels could've got there."

No there's just a wall there. The barrels could've gotten there easily; there's gaps between the walls and the stairs on both sides. For the time being I'll leave the barrels there.

thanks for the feedback
