Hi,

My friends told me that they received spam from me. I was like "What? That's impossible!", but it's true. Someone apparently hacked my account and used it to send three mails, to ALL my contacts!
So these are the actions I took:
- CHANGED MY PASSWORD!
- Logged everyone off (gmail has such a function, praise them for that)
- Saw that at the time the mail was sent, what IP was logged in
- Did a WHOIS check on it
- Saw that there was an e-mail called "abuse@...", so I sent an e-mail to that adress, in the hope that they will take action.

This was the spam that was sent:

Any thing else I forgot?

Thanks

Jeff

It didn't necessarily come "from" you. The "from" field of an e-mail can easily be replaced with anything.

But i'ts also in my "Sent" list, I'm sure it is from "me" (I also get some "not delivered" messages.).

I always get emails like "John invites you to join [some cack social network site]" (I don't have any friends called John I changed the name to protect their identities )
I don't think they actually come from the person.
But I also have a few friends who send me junk on purpose!

Delete all your contacts and get a new address, I change my email more regularly than I change my underwear. Can you delete an email address?

More importantly, can you delete your underwear!?

I have had my facebook hacked before. I started getting calls from my friends and family asking why I was sending out weird, explicit stuff. I don't know if someone bruted my password or if there was a virus maybe catching keystrokes on my PC. I changed the password slightly and it hasn't happened since.

That sounds like a really geeky chat up line
and as I write that I wonder whether "chat up" should have a hyphen

Now that you mention it... I didn't think of it that way! I was thinking more of the soiled type of dirty. Not the other, more common internet type!

I'm changing my password now just to be safe.
