Hey all,
A few days ago, I purchased Cryostasis: Sleep of reason off steam. After patiantly waiting for the download to finish, I fired it up, expecting to loose myself in the world of an icy cold, survival FPS.
Unfortunately, that's where my fun ended. To put simply, at maximum or minimum detail settings, the game runs like molasses in liquid nitrogen. The game seems to run between 40 -50fps whilst walking around, but when a gunfight, or the flashbacks begin, the fps can drop to 21fps.
Now before anyone questions my system, I have a fairy beefy rig with a 2.7Ghz Dual core, ATI 4870 1GB and 4GB of DDR3 Ram. I play all my games on an "19" monitor at 1024 X 768, and even achive higher framerates than mentioned in Crysis (46Fps with 4xAA ). What's even more bizzare is the fact that the graphics in Cryostasis aren't even that great (about a 10th of the quality of crysis), and neither are the PhysX effects.
I did some research into this, and apparently, the game isnt optimised for Dual core CPU's and only uses 60% of each core, which seems stupid considering the game boasts SLI support. It was also mentioned that the game manages to down a Geforce 280, even whilst using a PhysX card.
In closing, has any else experienced any performance issues with Cryostasis. I almost feel angry that Iv'e spent money on a game which refuses to run smoothly on my rig, even though the graphics are sub-par.
