Hey

Well, my hard drive is quite small, on a laptop only 70gb and i have barely anything left, something like 10gb left,

i know i have 6gb of music, and that windows takes around 10gb, and on top of that, 10gb worth of programs. so that is about 26gb out of 60gb used, so where the hell is the rest of this data being taken up?!

So, im wondering, on my school computers, there is an alplication that shows you how much of your quota is being taken up in each folder, is there any program like this available for free? or do you know of anything that might be helpful in this situation?

Thanks
Venge

You want the one that says "Reclaim disk space." I'm sure there are other programs out there, but this is the one I've used.

I will live forever or die trying.

Download and install the trial of SpaceMonger - it gives you a visual representation of the whole drive and the space taken up by each and every file/folder.

Thanks for the replies guys

@Venge, i tried yours, it was still on 0% scanning before i decided to stick with puppy of kosh's suggestion.

@IanM, i see that one is only a trial, and im not really one for buying products that wont be used very often.

@puppy of kosh, i quite like this one thanks alot

Thanks everyone

I'd highly recommend SpaceMonger as well. I downloaded the 30 day trial because I was wanting to know how everything was laid out, and found some things to get rid of. It was useful even though it went away 30 days later.

GET IT NOW! But really it's a very ingenious program I use it all the time and was a great purchase, a single user license is only $25.

Sequoia View is a hidden gem for disk space analysis. It's small and fast, and helps you find the problem hotspots quickly at a glance. Oh, and it's freeware

I haven't used Sequoia, but WinDirStat pretty much looks exactly like that.

If you've got a Mac the OSX-equivalent of WinDirStat is called Disk Inventory X. I love these two programs

@Mad Nightmare,
There's also a freeware version 1 of spacemonger, but taking a look at the alternatives (WinDirStat & SequoiaView) it appears they're all pretty alike.

I may try those others out myself
