The above pidgin theme doesn't look bad at all...the developers should seriously change the default "theme".

I came across Yuuguu, which is an IM client plus web conferencing and remote screen sharing.
http://www.yuuguu.com

But is shares the same downside as Digsby, creating an account with Yuuguu. If it wasn't for that, I'd love to check it out, both of them.

You can use any GTK theme you find, just google for gtk dark themes.

I was sooo close to getting adium themes working in java, but noooo, stupid css image paths are giving me crap.

my favorite is yahoo, i used to use MSN but it got very annoying (especially when the beeps are very load).
its also great because ive noticed that yahoo is alot faster than MSN, and it also automatically embeds pictures and videos from an url (such as youtube, google videos, yahoo videos and other stuff) into the chat screen.

oh and it sends files faster =)

Digsby is the best windows option by far. Perfect if you're friends are as fragmented on IM choices as mine. Plus it can monitor your e-mail for you.

what the big deal about making an account? It just takes 20 seconds... if it's good then how is registration a draw back, if you're going to use it for even just a month i don't see how 20 seconds is a drawback

The time to register isn't the problem, its the fact there is no need for such a stupid gimmick. What possible reason would my IM client need to go through their server? Store my IM accounts info?
