@ Southside Games - Glad you like him! I'm planning to teach him the arts of Kungfu, and will be using a lot of moves from the film "Kungfu Panda"

@ Cetobasilius - Thanks, I'll remember that for next time I already imported it and rigged it, and I think it turned out well.

@ Dr Tank - lol xD Thanks

@ Everyone

Bigtoes is now fully rigged, and I have finally taken the full advantage of CharacterFX's facial controls to use at areas like the legs so the skin actually shifts with the body when the legs bend. This allows the animations to look a lot smoother, and there won't be any face intersections.

Hey, i had not read about your picking items problem, i finished my picking item system a while ago, and maybe i can help with this, is picking objects up with the characters the problem? you should release a demo with some new interesting stuff, we might be able to help you out with more stuff by trying it! keep up the good work.

Yeah you're right, I probably should release a demo... But there hasn't been much progress since the last demo (except for some effects, lighting, a few new animations and some other bits and pieces). Picking up items is far away from this point in time. But if I need any help with item pickups, I'll be sure to ask you

@ all

Here's a video showing off Bigtoes' first few animations:

Not that much really

Looks good, but I reckon in the final version you're going to want the camera less floppy otherwise it'll become difficulty to see when your in range of hitting someone with certain moves as the camera will be off at an angle. (Referring to moments like 0:30 )

Really like the new character @TheComet!

Off topic slightly, C0wbox: How did you link to a specific point in time on the youtube link? I only just got the ordinary links working...

You can add #t=^^m$$s to the end of a Youtube video URL and it'll parse the parameters to the player when the page opens (where ^^ is the number of minutes through and $$ is the number of seconds through - I think if either number is a single digit you need a 0 infront of it)
Example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuWFusJVddU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuWFusJVddU#t=0m36s takes you to 0:36

@ C0wbox - Thanks Yeah, I will adjust that camera eventually

@ baxslash - Thanks!

@ Ashingda 27 - haha xD Glad you enjoy the animations, I put a TON of effort in to this character Unfortunately, I wasn't the one the created the model... The model is from Neodelito

I need everyone's opinion. Would Bigtoes look better with a vertex-fur shader?

For some reason light doesn't affect the object anymore when I apply the shader... Any help?

Short answer:
Yes!

Longer answer:
Yes, but don't apply the shader on his eyes, gloves and nose(if possible).

Are you using vertex or pixel lighting?

I'm using vertex. I'm very new to shaders, what's the difference between vertex and pixel lighting?

Bigtoes loox so sweet with the fur shader, TheComet! Nice!

Quote: "Yes, but don't apply the shader on his eyes, gloves and nose(if possible)."

Hum, I would keep it on the gloves, and even on the nose. But yeah, not on the eyes. Still, everyone has its own preferences.

Quote: "For some reason light doesn't affect the object anymore when I apply the shader"

That's because the shader handles it instead. Or at least, it should.

Cheers

I seem like the only one, but I think the regular one looks better from in game distance. Unless you can make the other one brighter and a little bit less blurry then I would stick with #1.

lol @ monorail cat, what a weird idea

@ Cetobasilius

I use AC3D for all levels, Southside Games uses CShop (although I think he switched to AC3D recently). I then use "LightMapMaker" for lightmaps, but I'm still struggling with those stupid lightmaps, they just don't fit

@ all

Thanks for the feedback on the shader everyone, but I think I will have to take it out for now, as it doesn't fit the overall atmosphere...

Update! Bigtoes animations are coming along nicely, here's him hanging off a ledge:

Expect a demo in the near future, I only have to finish the basic attacks for bigtoes I am also looking for someone that is willing to animate Knucklefist (I use CharacterFX, but we'll see if it's possible to convert to another format), so please contact me, you're more than welcome!

cool! multi-player! I'm so exited!

@ the comet
I use milkshape now. much better than cshop. cshop is very boxy and limited in what you can make. plus you tell me it makes like a billion polygons. tho it's free...

It's going to be a swamp. Still looking for a name for it, any suggestions are welcome!

Something I just noticed, are you going to put Random Interactive Events in the levels? Like some creepy swamp monster that tries to eat you for the swampy lev

here are some words for name: wetlands, bog, bottoms, everglade, fen, glade, holm, marsh, marshland, mire, moor, morass, mud, muskeg, peat bog, polder, quag, quagmire(lol didnt know that one), slough, swale, swampland (synonyms)

@ Southside Games

Thanks

@ razerx

I do plan to put in RIE (is that really the name? ) A swamp monster would be awesome!

How about "bog bottoms"? "quag-holm"? or "mud morass"? lol

Level is coming along nicely, still have some textures to do. Can anyone supply me with a good leaf texture for those round things? Should be dark, fine straws of grassy material.

I finally figured out how to do lightmaps now. There's this awesome command called enable object zbias, it allows you to alter the way the object is drawn to the screen based on its own Z buffer value and the Z buffer values already present in the scene. In short terms, I can load 2 identical objects with different textures, and not have the z-fighting.

Can anyone guess which game I got my inspiration from?

BTW, the level loox good so far.

@The Slayer - Thanks! The texture is not exactly what I need, maybe gimp can help me pimp it up. I'm looking for something like a willow tree.

@ CoffeeCoder - Thanks a lot

@ razerx - Good guessing, but that's not quite it It's from the good old days with the Playstation 1 and a certain dragon

@ Southside Games - Now I know why my cleaning ladies never survive when entering my bathroom...

Nope, a third one, object smoothing. Why do you make each and every triangle so distinct from each other in lighting?

@ Quel - Ah, that's because the lightmapping program I use only saves the lighting of each surface... Do you know of a way to smooth it out? I guess using a better lightmapping program would do the job...

@ Ashingda 27 - Haha yeah, it is quite powerful... I purposely set it to maximum strength just for effect Glad you like it
