I recently took a trip to my loft to get the Xmas tree down and discovered my old Diablo 2 CD and expansion CD, I cant find its serial code anywhere but the installation programme says the code is on the front of the case when it is not. I cant find the manuals anywhere and I am not sure I still have them. any ideas of what I can do about this problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please no-one suggest buying a new CD-key. I know its the obvious solution and is always suggested when this type of problem crops up but I don't see why I should be expected to pay for something I have already paid for once.

CD-key is always in the manual for thos games.

and if ur looking for online play, there is only one solution: buy a new one. there really is no other if ur looking for MP, still, ~14$ isnt that much for a game

If the price was like £5 for both keys then I would probably consider it I would still be a bit annoyed about paying for something I already own. After all I bet all they do is use your batch code to query a serial database which doesn't really cost anything. 2p of electricity maybe? I may just play offline but I have heard of something called a serial grabber but I doubt I will be able to find one that works and is clean.

But before you found the game, it was as if you didn't own it. I mean, if it was in your loft then you obviously weren't playing it much, so what's the difference between that and, say, losing it entirely and then remembering that you once owned it? If it was a good game, there shouldn't be an issue with paying to play it again.

Well i payed initailly for the game why should i have to pay again, if i forgot about the game or not is beside the point i own a ligitimate copy which i payed for out of my own money and i get told to pay to be able to play it. i dont like the fact that some company thinks that its accepetible to ask for people to pay for something they already own, imo: they should have put the serial on the disc-front.. but of course thay are not going do that because it means they cant then make more money out of people. I know exactly how these corperate B**t**ds think, they wont make it easy for their customers because it means that they have to turn down another way to rip people off.

Diablo II was a 3-cd set in 2 cases. The sticker is on the front of the single-cd case.

The expansion pack was a single cd, and again the sticker is on the front of the case.

Apparently, if you have registered your keys on Blizzards site, then you can recover everything, even if you have no CD.
If you have the game installed somewhere, it's possible to recover those keys - just google for it, but beware of malware.
Otherwise, you're probably out of luck.

I did this for Diablo 2, then promptly registered my key with blizzard.

I lost my car keys last week...so by that logic I should have just bought a new car?

This is the main reason I hate copy protection. It does not stop pirates and it only serves to annoy legitimate customers.

I stopped playing D2 after the 1.10 and later patches because I felt they were ruining the game. I'm just waiting for D3 now, they just recently added the Monk to the character lineup.

Not necessarily, unless your car has been collecting dust in the attic for some time, during which you most likely were driving newer, better cars. Should you decide that you really need to use that older car, I'm sure there is somewhere you could get a key made.

Google Ad wants everyone to play for free

The difference between the car and the software is that you never owned the software. All you bought was a license to play it.

You've just come back from your second ban. Please watch your language.

Um, no, you lost the key somewhere, so it's your fault. If you lose your Windows serial key will they give you a new one for free?

Try contacting Blizzard support. This forum can't help you with this, unless it's already installed and you grab the key using shady software.

In my copies it's on the inside of the case.

If I lose something I expect to have to pay for a new one unless it's covered by insurance. Why should software be any different? In fact lots of software companies bend over backwards to make life easy for people in this situation (for the reason you gave earlier).

As far as I remember, the cd key for Diablo 2 IS on the cd case.
I bought Diablo 2 at launch, and recently bought the battlechest, and in both editions the keys are on the case.
You are either too distracted, or you're lying.
Edit:
The Expansion cd key is on the cd sleeve.

The serial keys for my version are not on the case, the copy’s I own are from the “BestSeller” series and for some reason the products do not seem to have the cd-key on the sleeve or front of the case. In relation to my apparent bad language I used stars for a reason. I still legally own the license to the software and the data is on cd-rom which I still have in immaculate condition but I am told that I have to pay to get the code to access some data which I have paid for and belongs to me. In fact... Screw that! There must be someway I can get around it, using key grabber or possibly a key generator is not against the law if I have a legitimate copy of the software which I do, the only problem is finding one that doesn’t try to destroy my computer.

The Copy for the best seller edition is on the Manual.
I can guarantee the manual will turn up when you no longer want to play diablo!
Its always the way.

How are these comments helping anyone? You've just come back from a ban, and you are already starting to flame people.

Actually, they will (and they do the same for all their products). You have to ring them up and provide them with a stack of details (and possibly mail them the physical media) but they will actually do it.

Irrelevant to the point - but MS are actually pretty decent at that kind of thing (as well as automatic phone reactivation which I was impressed with)

Well, technically that's a legal grey area, and if you decide to go the key generator route, don't bother asking this forum for help. We've already said everything there is to say on this subject I think.

You should be annoyed at yourself for losing the manual, really. This is like being "annoyed" that you lost your locker key in school and has to pay to cover its cost.

My school has always used combination locks. Key locks only need a paperclip, but then again I also showed the school combo locks required nothing more than a sensitive hand.

Just deal with it and buy a new copy of the game man, the battle chest is only $40 brand new and you can probably find it much cheaper at a used book store or something. Not bad considering you get all the expansions plus Diablo 1 (and that was the better game any way )

I had to repurchase my copy of Baldur's Gate when my discs got scratched, same goes for Red Alert 2 (my brother's friends cracked the Allied disc AND lost the cd key). For old games like this it's just something we have to deal with since they came out before the concept of digital purchases.

[EDIT] Or for even cheaper, go to Ebay

I remember some of the older Blizzard games you could randomly push numbers when it asked for your serial and it would work. Purely found out on accident.

Anyway, if you decide to go the 'shadey' route, remember if you want to do battle.net, be prepared to come across your twin.
