Yep, your models are safe! I'm just using it as a placeholder in this scene for perspective while I work on it (it seems appropriate for the mood too! ).

There's a lot of vertex lighting going on, but I think you're right. I may enhance the lighting contrast in these foggy scenes, to make it stand out more.

Next I'm going to have a go at a river scene ...

How about facebook chat mate? I never use MSN anymore (nor have it installed). Infact, I never use facebook chat for that matter. I never use chat systems anymore actually. ... but we're both on facebook already, so I can turn that thing on.

I've just made myself an animating water texture though. I know that shaders look the shizzle, but I want a non-shader based solution. Anyway, I'll find out what codezez youses gotz. If they're rubbish, I can always kill your whole family and then wear a clown suit to the funerals and laugh manically all the way through. That would be adequate payback!

Really like that fog, the scene has a really thick atmosphere - it's subtle, so it has that nice organic feel.

One option for foliage transparency issues, is using good old mode 4, transparency mode 4 is 1-bit alpha, so it's pretty good for nice round leaves and stuff. It can sorta determine the look of the scene, like if you had clumps of foliage rather than soft grass, the foliage would stand out. Personally, I like foliage with trans mode 4, but reactive, so when you move over it the plains rotate away from the camera - like a really cheap Crysis foliage effect. In third person, it would look cool to have it sway a little, and flatten as characters walk over it. With a good indexing system (maybe based on a reference grid) it need not be processor intensive. One option if you can sacrifice soft grass (and transparency issues) for lush leaves.

One thing is for sure, soft alpha transparent grass is damn tricky to draw and capture, at least we have a fighting chance with leaves .

I dread to think. Is metal hard to grab good texture photos of too? For a college project, I resorted to making something on Paint Shop Pro using noise and a motion blur because I couldn't get a nice even tone and cameras wouldn't focus on it. (no manual focus)

Athlon64 2.7gHz->OC 3.9gHz, 31C, MSi 9500GT->OC 1gHz core/2gHz memory, 48C, 4Gb DDR2 667, 500Gb Seagate + 80Gb Maxtor + 40Gb Maxtor = 620Gb, XP Home
Air cooled, total cost £160

One tip would to have some twigs and leaves. If you could have a few dynamic leaves that blow with the wind like they did with a Nvida physX demo that look sweet. Good Job.

I think a stream would look great! also add some branches! it will ruin the pillar feel! Rocks are certainly needed though and how about some bushes!

Looks great by the way!
