I thought these hadn't been in use since the 80s but i have heard that they've been used in mp3 players and that the Gameboy/pocket/colour used a z80 like processor. Is there any products other than those mentioned which still use this type of processor or are they not practical anymore?

Merry Xmas everyone ^^

The instruction set is still quite widely used in simple devices like MP3 players as you said. At the end of the day, it's just another PIC and it's found its way into a lot of niche products. Stuff like fitness machines, alarm systems. You might even have one in your car controlling certain low-priority systems.

I heard arm processors make up the majority of portable device nowadays so I suppose they take the market away from the z80 type processors, kinda makes you proud to be British. lol

Merry Xmas everyone ^^
