Hi guys!

I’m having a problem that I hope someone can help me with. I've just installed a new GeForce 7600 GS. I can now see special effects that I've never seen before. But now, I have a problem just rendering objects. Polys seem missing and/or are misplaced or stretched out all over the place. The following image shows this.

Using my old ATI card, the water wasn't right, but the terrain was. Now, it's the reverse.

I uninstalled all the ATI drivers from my old video card and have downloaded the most recent drivers for my new card from nVidia, as well as the most recent DirectX components (August 2009).

The only problem I'm having is with 3D rendering; everything else is fine. I've noticed that my No One Lives Forever game - which is a DirectX 7 game - is unaffected, while NOLF 2 - a DirectX 9 game - is substantially effected. Objects made in 3D World Studio are effected, but objects made with Tree Magik G3 or Plant Life aren’t. Also, when I pause my DBPro programme, the objects are rendered correctly until the programme is resumed (missing polys reappear, misplaced polys return to the correct position, stretched-out polys return to normal).

If anyone has any ideas as to what I can try to fix this, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks.

Well every one always say upgrade the drivers to the newest drivers. It might not always work with older cards.

Try using the drivers that came with your card some times those are the best drivers to try first.

If it works problems solved.

If not try a few of the custom drivers here. www.guru3d.com

Drivers would be my first guess as well, but if there is an issue with the card, then you might get those same problems. Does this happen more when the PC has been on for a while?

I'd be tempted to try the card in another PC, and send it back for replacement if the problems persist. I have seen these same issues for different reasons (drivers, insufficient power or cooling, etc) on nVidia cards around that series. The other hardware thing to check is the power supply, if it's a plain old PSU then it might not have the juice to power the card fully - it's a good idea to have a 500w PSU for these bigger burdon cards. Also make sure that you have plugged in the PSU to the card itself - it's usually a requirement of these cards to have an extra 12v power plugged in, look for a socket the same as on your CD rom and Hard Drive.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys.

When I installed the card, I installed the drivers from the CD then tried it out. That's when I first saw this behaviour. I then downloaded the current drivers and tried again with no improvement.

After reading Van B's post, I thought that I had a sufficient power supply, but read the power requirements for the card and opened the case and checked anyway. I was wrong. I'm pretty sure insufficient power’s the problem.

Thanks again for the help. I knew I came to the right place.
