I suppose it's not too bad if you're wanting something simple, that is if you have decent equipment, though if you're not looking for quality, you can pick up a mic pretty cheaply, I picked up a boundary mic for about £4 from Maplin to record interviews...the silent bits you could hear are fuzzy, but it's not noticeable with a consistent noise - like with the interview I did in a public place last week. I suppose if you really were a cheapskate, that'd be your option...assuming you had a music instrument, you might go as cheap as making music with your voicebox...which could work in a quirky sort of way, though it couldn't be a serious game.
