Geek Culture / Can Blender open .3ds?

Okay i have a free .3ds file i downloaded,and i looked around and saw people talking about 3ds in blender.So i tried to open the file,and it says "file is not a blender file" or something like that.Do i need a specific plugin for this or what?

Look under import, and download the .3ds(3D-studio) importer python script. Install the file, and then look under File/Import in order to load the .3ds file.

Doesn't Blender come with a 3DS importer already installed? Just click File->Import and it should be in the list. It's been a while since I've used it, though, so I could be wrong.

try downloading and installing python 2.6:

I believe it's required to get those features.
