I was just wondering what kind of indie games people on here play. Here are my four favorites ATM:

AI War: Fleet Command

In this game, you're placed in control of a giant fleet, and have to capture planets in a huge game against 2 smart AI opponents. 1 game of this is massive. We're talking ~12 hours to beat the AI in an 80 planet game. The game can get really intense, and battles can range from 50 spaceships to 4000 (my comp starts lagging after ~4000 fighting each other at the same time, but theoretically there is no limit).

Creeper World

In this game, you have to fight this "creeper", a blue oozing liquid, that will destroy anything it touches. You have to hold off the creeper long enough to activate four rift totems to get to the next planet. It's awesome.

Osmos

You're a circle, and you have to absorb other, smaller circles, in order to become a big circle. Combine that with catchy graphics and a great sound track, and you have a really really cool game.

Eufloria

Lead your bird armies to victory in an asteroid field. You have to lead your blue birds (or whatever color you choose) to blue supremacy, asteroid after asteroid (because blue birds are the master race).

Sos... what indie games do you guys think are awesome?

Haven't checked out any indi games for a while, but World of Goo is great, really the best example of how indi games can be.

Spelunky, FTW:

It's such a simple game that's amazingly difficult and has the ability to drain hours from you and make you facepalm as you do something stupid(guaranteed to happen).

I played Creeper World the other day and it's pretty fun, the only problem is that it's so time consuming, and once you learn that you can effectively shut down fluid emitters by camping them with some lasers it's just an exercise in how long you can be bothered to wait.

Still Mount & Blade, by far ...

And now it's only £5.99 on DVD.

M&B, and CORTEX COMMAND.

I'm so obsessed with cortex command - it's the ultimate party game.
I bought a t-shirt and 4 controllers just for that game.

Cortex command a party game? Controllers?

What am I missing out on? I bought cortex command, but 2 player was always weird and hard to use w/ the same keyboard.

Now, I understand the need for the controllers ... but the t-shirt?

Good call for CC though. I download CC a while back, but found it quite tricky. I have got PS3 controllers to work on my PC though, so I might have a go with those and see if it works.

@Neuro fuzzy - Yeah, the game plays better with controllers than with the keyboard (believe it or not!). You need high quality USB ones from logitech, rather than cheap ones, because the sensitivity is really really important for aiming.

Just plug 'em in and configure them for up to 4 payer mayhem.

this year was a lot of tower defense games for me and i've been playing Defense Grid lately (took advantage of recent sales at Steam... bought this, the punumbra collection and stalker (chernobyl) for a whopping $14.47 total).

(click the pic)

and, i do recommend it if you're into tower defense games.

I would recommend that, it's the best controller for CC, but if you already have xbox controllers the best control set up for CC is 4 Wireless controllers and one of these:

Look for cheaper prices though

@neuro fuzzy - That should work fine, I think two of mine are later generations of those (the other two are wireless).

As long as they aren't cheap ~10 dollar ones with low sensitivity. Then you can only aim your weapons is 45 degree increments, which totally sucks!

EDIT:

This is mine:

I would get those instead, the reviews on the one you picked out don't look too hot.

Yeah, I thought mine did until I turned it over and saw a tiny little DIP switch for analogue. Now it's fantastic. I've still got it three years on.

I love Trine's physic's based puzzles. Playing through the game a second time feels completely new with the puzzles and using a different character.

Yeah Mount & Blade is still my favourite. It just gets better the more I play.

I remember when they added in the ragdoll, it was awesome.

I just finished playing Machinarium, a brilliant little game made by the people who created Samorost:

It's a point and click adventure game where you control a little robot and make your way through a robot city. The art style is just wonderful, and there are a whole bunch of imaginative characters (including a plumber-robot with a giant wrench for a head). It has a great hint system, as well: at any time, you can click the "lightbulb" icon in the top right of the screen, and a little thought bubble will pop up, showing you what you're supposed to do in that area (but not how to do it). If you still get stuck on that screen, you can click the walkthrough button. You have to play through a small minigame to access the walkthrough each time; it's not very hard, and basically stops you from overusing the walkthrough. This tends to keep the pace going quite well; some of the puzzles really are ingenious but might not appear obvious at first.

Machinarium looks great! I'm just going to have a peek at the demo version now... Like the style though and it sounds interesting.

I wasn't going to post here, but then last night I got Killing Floor off Steam

and I'm totally addicted.

It's basically very similar to L4D, except in this it really feels like the monsters are going to kill you. Like you die easy, you're much more vulnerable and you need your team to survive. Has a nice dynamic where you have to buy weapons and ammo between waves of enemies, which makes accuracy and general good-killingsmanship important. Top notch indy.
It's META SCORED at 71%. and Only £3.99 on steam right now. Worth a Look.

Oh oh oh , and before I forget,

this is a point and clicker like Machinarium mentioned above but it's an ABSOLUTE JOY. THe graphics are so clean and unique (screenshot not doing it justice), and they gameplay is massively satisfying, and unlike alot of Point and click games, it's intuitive, you're not just clicking around the screen trying to find the next thing to click.
Me and may girlfriend played it from start to finish in one sitting over christmas.

Well I liked the Machinarium demo - I might buy it when I get some cashmoney (although it's download only - I like having things on disc).

What was the point-and-click you were talking about, Butters?

EDIT: It says in the corner of the screenshot. Well played, James, well played.

I think there's a huge market gap for a Hawk-style skating game. There hasn't been a proper one on PC for years now and multiplayer free skate is, in my opinion, some of the best half-laid-back half-competitive games there is. American Wasteland bombed because it was awful. It runs slowly (because Aspyr gave it the touch of death) and the physics just aren't fun. It also missed the point, focusing too hard on a story which really isn't that interesting rather than creating a varied and large world to skate around. If you look at some of the newer skating games on consoles, they have this wonderful weight to the controls and if you combined this with PC modding and maybe online multiplayer I think you'd have a winner.

The only "Indie" game that I play is Audiosurf. It is a really good game, I often use it to listen to any album that I have, and don't feel that I gave a good enough listen to. When I play, I tend to have a better focus on the music, and appreciate it more.

Try playing L4D on expert if you think you don't die easily enough and don't require help from your team to survive.

I've played Killing Floor a lot too, although not so much now. I wish they'd add some more exciting game modes, and actually implement AI that requires strategy to beat.

Yeah, ok... I'll give you that... and to be honest I just quit out of the most easy game of KF so far... so they both have their flaws..
